Dutch regional broadcasters to leave 19.2 East

The Dutch regional public broadcasters currently simulcasting on the Astra positions at 19.2 degrees East and at 23.5 degrees East will switch off the distribution on the Astra 1 position of 19.2 degrees East. Late last year ten regional broadcasters joined the Dutch DTH line-up, but at the time it was announced the Astra 1 position would have to be abandoned to free up capacity for other European markets.

The regional channels are free-to-air, but DTH operator Canal Digitaal Satelliet is also involved in the switchover campaign. The operator said the main offer for the Dutch market will remain at 19.2 degrees, but new thematic packages and probably a small HD bouquet will be offered via 23.5 degrees to beef up the offer. The operator has been offering special “duo LNB’s” for some time.
