Czech TV defies ad restrictions

06.31 Europe/London, October 19, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The Czech public broadcaster CT has continued to show commercials on two of its four channels for four days after it was required to stop doing so.
As a result, reports E15, it now faces the prospect of court proceedings initiated by the country’s Radio and TV Council (RRTV).
A new television act that came into effect on October 14 requires commercials to be withdrawn from the channels CT1 and CT24.
Revenues from the public broadcaster’s two other channels CT2 and CT4 will meanwhile go to the State Cultural Fund and the production of sports programmes respectively.
The news comes in the same week that it was reported the national commercial broadcaster Prima TV plans to raise its ad fees by up to 13% next year.
