Czech Republic to defend terrestrial broadcasting

January 28, 2015 09.14 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Czech Telecom Office (CTU) has spoken out in favour of retaining the 470-694 MHz band for terrestrial TV services.

In a statement, the regulator says it made its position known at a meeting of one of the international project teams at a CEPT conference in Edinburgh.

The meeting focused on preparations for the positions European countries will adopt at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), where one of the most important items on the agenda will be the future use of the 470-694 MHz band after the release of 700 MHz band in the so-called third digital dividend.

The CTU does not support allocating the dividend to mobile services, preferring instead for it to remain reserved for terrestrial TV services.

The final proposal from European counties will be expressed in the European Common Proposal (ECP) and submitted to the WRC in Geneva in November.
