Cyfrowy Polsat has acquired a 100% stake the online video service ipla for PLN150 million (€36.5 million).

The service, which offers viewers over 20 TV channels plus tens of thousands of clips from series, TV programmes and sporting events on an on demand basis, currently has around 1.4 million users, as opposed to 0.5 million in 2009.

Hitherto available via PCs, connected TVs, tablets, smartphones and consoles, it has in the last few days also become accessible through Cyfrowy Polsat decoders.

Initially, subscribers with HD5000 decoders are being offered several tens of thousands of on demand clips free of charge, and in due course ipla will also become available on MINI HD 2000 and T-HD (for DTT reception) receivers.

Ipla was previously owned by Redefine, a company backed by Cyfrowy Polsat/Polsat founder and owner Zygmunt Solorz-Zak.

Separately, Cyfrowy Polsat has entered into an agreement with Polkomtel, the operator of the mobile network Plus.

Under it, the two will be able to offer their subscribers each other’s standard products.
