Chellomedia launches Latin American operation
January 29, 2013 08.31 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Liberty Global’s content company Chellomedia has announced the launch of Chello Latin America, a new operating business that already provides television services to more than 100 million households in the region.

Alejandro Harrison has been appointed the CEO of Chello Latin America and will be reporting to Niall Curran, president of Chellomedia. Alejandro was previously the CEO of Pramer SCA. which, along with MGM Latin America LLC, and Canal Cosmopolitan Latino America LLC becomes integrated into Chello Latin America.

Chello Latin America’s pay TV portfolio is widely distributed in the region and includes three genres: movies – MGM, MGMHD, Film and Arts, Europa Europa and Canal; women and lifestyle – El Gourmet, Cosmopolitan TV, Casa Club TV and Ella; and men – Reality TV and AM Sports. The combined footprint of the existing portfolio is 124 million TV households.

Headquartered in Miami, and with offices in Buenos Aires, Chello Latin America will be responsible for the management and distribution of its pay TV channels as well as the development of the business through M&A, strategic partnerships and investments. The new business unit will also leverage the strength of Chellomedia’s global business through working with Chello Multicanal (Spain and Portugal), Chello Central Europe, Chello Benelux and Chello Zone (UK and International).

Niall Curran, president of Chellomedia, commented, “We are excited about the opportunities in Latin America and look forward to developing the very good relationships we enjoy with the many clients, advertisers and partners from which we acquire rights and commission original productions.

“With our teams in Miami and Buenos Aires and Alejandro’s leadership, we have a wealth of experience in the pay-TV markets in Latin America. And with the support of Liberty Global, Chellomedia expects to play a full role in developing new services in the region’s dynamic economies. We are looking forward to working with our pay TV partners who carry our channels throughout Latin America and support their exciting growth and innovation.”

“We have always been committed to this continent and I am delighted to see Liberty Global’s content division setting up its operations here. We look forward to developing partnerships and finding more opportunities in the region,” added Mauricio Ramos, president of Liberty Global Latin America and Chello Latin America chairman.
