Chandler mom, 80-year-old grandma fend off burglar

A Chandler woman and her 80-year-old mother fended off a burglar with a metal bed frame and a broom just after midnight Saturday, police said.
The 34-year-old woman had just arrived home with her 11-year-old daughter on the 1800 block of S. Hudson Drive.

The woman was unloading her car with her daughter when she noticed a young man get into her car and rifle through her purse, Chandler Police Detective David Ramer said.
The 11-year-old alerted her grandmother and ran upstairs as her mother confronted the suspect, identified as Cedric Galloway, 18, of Chandler.
Galloway reportedly grabbed the woman, then ran into the house, sat down, and told the two women that they better not call the police, Ramer said.
The mother armed herself with a medal bed frame and the grandmother grabbed a broom, Ramer said, and hit the suspect with the items as he ran out onto the street until he fell unconscious.
Authorities transported Galloway to a hospital, where he was treated for a large laceration to his head, Ramer said. None of the victims sustained injuries, police said.
Galloway was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Authorities said Galloway apologized to officers and wished to apologize to the victims.
Police have submitted suggested charges of third-degree burglary, two counts of assault, criminal trespass, and minor in consumption to the county attorney for review.
