Canal Digital renews with Turner

February 9, 2016 10.53 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Turner brand stackCanal Digital has added on demand content to a new distribution deal with Turner.

CNN, TNT, Cartoon Network and Boomerang have been renewed for an unspecified period, while a “large archive” will give access to complete seasons of current TV shows. Canal Digital says it will make the content available in the next six months.

“As part of this agreement, we have also gotten access to complete seasons of shows that can be viewed whenever and where ever our customers’ desire. We know that more and more people watch TV in this manner. Turner’s wide selection of movies, drama series and kids content will be a great addition to our customer offering”, says Ragnar Kårhus administrerende direktør at Telenor Broadcast and Canal Digital.

The deal comes against the background of Canal Digital’s stalled negotiations with Discovery, which has seen brands including Eurosport, TV Norge and Discovery itself absent from screens from over a week.

Last year Turner’s children’s channel portfolio was alone in growing its audience in three key Nordic markets.

“This new and expanded partnership with Canal Digital marks an important moment for Turner in the Nordic region, as we focus more and more on putting the consumer at the centre of everything we do,” says Ian McDonough, SVP & MD, Turner, UK & Northern Europe. “For us this means concentrating our efforts around the hugely popular global channel brands within our portfolio, whilst seamlessly delivering through partners like Canal Digital a branded and editorialized on demand experience for fans of our content.”

The archive will include Cartoon Network and Boomerang shows, such as Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Ben 10, Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo as well as TNT dramas Falling Skies and Good Behaviour.
