Canal Digital makes NOK 250m offer to TV2
October 31, 2012 10.11 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Canal Digital Kabel TV has made a new offer to TV2 over the carriage of the Norwegian commercial network’s thematic channels.

It says that while carriage of the main TV2, a public service channel, will continue, it is seeking to reach agreement with TV2 over the issues of price and channel selection.

The channels concerned are TV 2 Zebra, TV 2 Sport, TV 2 Nyhetskanalen, TV 2 Bliss and TV 2 Filmkanalen.

Following a string of customer complaints, Canal Digital has apologised to its subscribers, and says TV2 and itself have a clear duty to resolve the situation.

Canal Digital’s new offer is worth NOK 250 million (€33.6 million) over three years. The operator has recently introduced a new package structure that offers a fixed basic package of 28 channels and a basket of 15 thematic channels from where subscribers can make their choice.

“There has been a substantial gap between what TV 2 has demanded and what we believe the distribution of the channels is worth to you as a customer. We hope that the offer we have made TV 2 today to resolve differences between us. And we think that will happem,” said Canal Digotal in a notice to subscribers.

TV2 has begun a major promorional campaign, giving its side of the story, and giving subscribers information on how they can access the channels through other providers.
