Canal’s Meheut gets vote of confidence
Published: 12.18 Europe/London, February 20, 2012 By Robert Briel

After an eventful week of rumour, Canal+ shareholders have given CEO Bertrand Meheut a vote of confidence, reports Les Echos.

At a meeting on Friday, the supervisory board of Canal+ voted to renew Meheut’s contract for four more years. At the same the board confirmed that Rodolphe Belmer, current CEO of the Spanish Canal SA, would be his successor.

The newspaper remarked that after various leaks to the press last week stating that Meheut, 62 years old, was leaving the group’s operational tasks in late 2013 to make way for Rodolphe Belmer, his position as head of Canal was weakened.

The Canal group has not formally responded to the rumours that had to remain under wraps while internal talks took place.

Friday’s vote confirming the position of Meheut the group does not change the procedure of the upcoming handover.

Events seem to confirm the wish of Vivendi, the parent company of Canal+, to see Meheut stay involved in the group after the handover, most likely as chairman of the supervisory board of Canal, a position now occupied by Jean-Bernard Levy.
