Bulgarian station fights closure threat

May 6, 2015 09.16 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Bulgarian station TV7 has sent an open letter to the country’s prime minister and other leading members of the government updating them on latest developments to force its closure.

Novinite reports that last week a bailiff, accompanied by police officers, entered TV7’s building with an order to seize its equipment.

The situation was only diffused when the PM Boyko Borisov ordered the police out of the building. Two senior police officers then resigned from their posts.

Now, assignees at the collapsed Corporate Commercial Bank have refused an offer by TV7 to repay the station’s debts, partially by the end of this week and fully by the end of the month.

TV7 argues that their stance goes beyond the legal and financial relations between a debtor and creditor.
