Bootloader / Secondstage

Hi guys, I'm a newbie on Dreamboxes. Anybody who can explain to me about bootloader / secondstage, are this 2 names for the same thing ? Is this the program that you communicate with when updating the Dreambox ?
How do I update the bootloader / second stage ?
When do I need to update it ?
I have a Dreambox 800HD PVR which bootloader should I have on it ?
Which is the "latest" bootloader for DM800HD ?

The bootloader we all talk about is the one we can update and is know as SSL, BL and second stage. They are all the same thing.

The SSL is similar in it function to a Pc's Bios .

It can be updated just like flashing a image it takes seconds and does not effect the image your using.

Usually a new BL is included in images so if you flash a new image it will update the bootloader, i don't see the point of using a new bootloader on a older image personally.

SSL84 is the latest original boot loader ssl82 is the latest clone bootloader but that will be updated shortly.

I have a Dreambox 800HD PVR which bootloader should I have on it ?

It depends on the sim you have on your box, "Sim 2.01" is the latest and popular one for dm800hd clones. upon booting you can see what "build" you have on your model, like Ferret said, current SSL build is 82 for clones. if somehow you can`t see anything, you can always have a look inside by removing the top cover.:thum:
