BBC Worldwide Channels increases original content
10.28 Europe/London, November 24, 2011 By Julian Clover

BBC Worldwide Channels has announced plans to increase the amount of original programming across its channel portfolio.

The group has appointed UKTV executive Tracy Forsyth in the newly created role of vice president, commissioning. Forsyth will oversee the commissioning and co-production of programmes for BBC Knowledge, BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC HD and UK.TV, BBC Worldwide’s general entertainment channel in Australia and New Zealand.

The plan is to create a stream of content to feed the channels – previously the output from the BBC’s domestic networks was deemed sufficient – working with the BBC’s own production departments and the independent sector.

During 2011 20 hours of content have been commissioned from studios including BBC Bristol, Lonely Planet TV, Southern Star and Freehand.
