BBC to demonstrate DVB-T2-Lite
11.00 Europe/London, August 25, 2011 By Julian Clover

IBC 2011. Hall 1. Stand No. 1.D81. BBC Research & Development is to give the first public demonstration of the new DVB-T2-Lite profile for mobile broadcasting.

The BBC started transmissions of DVB-T2-Lite from the roof of BBC R&D’s South Lab on July 7. BBC R&D has developed its own T2-lite modulator and demodulator, which will be on display at the IBC expo in Amsterdam next month.

BBC R&D has expressed an interest in licensing its technology to other parties.

As previously reported in Broadband TV News, the latest version of the DVB-T2 specification introduces DVB-T2-Lite as a new profile which will allow cost reduced receiver implementations for applications such as mobile broadcasting.

The profile can be mixed with conventional T2 signals in a single multiplex, to allow separate optimisation of the individual components and also to reuse the existing broadcast transmitter infrastructure.
