Austria to migrate to DVB-T2 in August 2014

KommAustria has launched its 2013 digitisation plan, which calls for a migration to DVB-T2 in 2016.

Digital terrestrial broadcasting started in Austria in 2006 with two muxes, A and B. Licences were issued for a period of ten years using the DVB-T standard.

KommAustria, the Austrian Communications Authority, has now published its digitisation plan for 2013 on May 1st 2013.

Under the plan, KommAustria will pave the way for migration from DVB-T to DVB-T2 starting in August 2014 when it will issue ne licenses for the two muxes.

The two mutliplexes are now being used by pubpic broadcaster ORF, a number of private channels as well as regional broadcasters.

Last Ap[til, Austrian transmiiter company ORS, a subsidiary of public broadcaster ORF, launched a paid-for DTT service called SimpliTV using the DVB-T2 standard,

The digitisation plan is available on the website of RTR, the Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR), in German only.
