AsiaSat 6 launch postponed

| 27 August 2014

In a blow for the provider, Asia Satellite Telecommunications Company Limited (AsiaSat) has been forced to delay the launch of its latest craft, what would have been its second launch in less than a month

AsiaSat 6 is based on Space Systems/Loral 1300 platform and designed to operate from the 120 degrees East orbital location. With 28 C-band transponders and a design life of 15 years, the craft will offer two beams, one global beam and one regional beam for a broad range of video distribution and broadband network services in the Asia-Pacific region.

The satellite was originally set for take-off at 12.50pm EDT on 27 August aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Cape Canaveral in the US. However, the launch has been delayed 'until further notice' to allow more time for SpaceX 'to examine and verify data'. AsiaSat has given assurances that the satellite and launch vehicle remain in a safe configuration.
