Greece’s Antenna Group plans a major expansion into Serbia, adding up to five cable channels to its portfolio in the next 12 months.

The news was given by Theodoros Kyriakou, the company’s CEO, in an interview in Belgrade and reported by Bloomberg and Ekathimerini.

Antenna Group entered the Serbian market in 2009 through the acquisition of News Corp-owned Fox Televizija, which it subsequently renamed Prva Televizija.

According to Kyriakou, it is now looking to expand its activities across Europe, with the next couple of years offering good opportunities to invest in media assets due to the global economic crisis.

In his view, Serbia could become a production hub for media outlets in the region.

However, this could depend on the progress the country makes towards integrating with the European Union.
