Hi, I am a new convert to Freesat and I have just installed a couple of Amiko HD8260 boxes in my flat in north Dublin, Ireland.

I would just like to ask whether it is possible to play video's from a USB drive plugged into the front of the HD8260, and watch them on the tv.

The user handbook is pretty poor in the descriptions as it has probably been translated from a European language into English.

Also the pictures are no good, as they are so dark in print that it is not possible to see what they show.

Perhaps some-one can tell me how to do it, if it is possible.

It's possible of course.
Just plug it in and go to menu - media if I remember correctly.

hi Kalehrl, thanks for your reply. I am not very up to date with new satellite receivers, or televisions for that matter.

I have a Finlux television in my sitting room, and it has a USB port, but the television is very particular about the file type stored on the USB drive. It will play some AVI files, but not others.

It is the same with MPEG 4, some play, some don't.

In my kitchen I have an older Phillips, but this television has only an older DVI connection, no audio, so I can't play any saved video's without a lot of cabling. I need a DVI cable and an audio cable to connect the computer, and I could not be bothered with all the messing.

If I can play AVI or MPEG 4 files through the Amiko receiver then I will be very happy.

xvid avis, h264 mkvs and mp4s work just fine. you will be hard pressed to find video files that don't work. :)

Hi, sorry for delay in replying, I have been away working.

I am going to convert .avi files to the newer h264 format, and see if the non-playing video's will work.

I use VLC viewer on my laptop if I want to play a video, but the Amiko doesn't have this player. VLC includes all codecs as standard to play all video formats.

Thanks again,
