América Móvil launches VOD/OTT service in Mexico

América Móvil released its so-called Clarovideo VOD/OTT platform on November 30, in Mexico. Users will pay a USD 5.35 monthly fee that will enable them to gain unlimited access to content, or to rent titles for USD 3.8 in the case of last releases, and USD 1.5 for remaining titles. It is worth to be mentioned that Clarovideo offer is a 30% cheaper than those of its main competitors, Netflix and Totalmovie.

Clarovideo catalog is made up of more than 3.000 productions that include movies, series, concerts, documentaries, cartoons and music, among other genres. Titles belong to DLA, the integrator and aggregator of content that América Móvil acquired in January 2012. Clarovideo VOD service is currently commercialized in Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Paraguay. América Móvil is planning to extend it over other Latin American markets soon.

Users will be able to access to the site through any mobile device, since applications for Smartphones and tablets fitted with Android and iOS operating systems have been developed. Users will also be offered access to the service through more than 5 thousand WiFi sites in Infinitum. Subscription will be available through the web site, where users will choose to pay with credit card or to be added amounts to Telmex bill.

Clarovideo initiative enables América Móvil to face up to the Mexican Government that has banned Telmex from operating in the Pay-TV market. Claros Slim’s firm had already launched an online live TV channel, UnoTV. TV Azteca and Televisa, its main competitors, denounced the firm before the Federal Telecommunications Commission, but it has not been decided whether Telmex is violating its license title or not.
