hello need your advice pls. i am one of those who are on the waiting list and while talking with others they highlighted some points for me that i need your opinion and advice about when compared to the dm8000.

1- vu can't and will not be able to do pip as the dm8000 for example.
2- vu is not a replacement for the dm8000 as for the build quality and functionality.
3- i feel like the dm8000 is outdated, being produced on late 2008 and no updated hardware yet (may b i am wrong but according to my search) where as the vu is being updated 1.2, 1.3 and now the 2.2. despite the fact that no one knows what is updated/modified.

if and just if, will you advice to get a dm8000 if affordable or will still get the vu.

thanks for your advice

1. That is what is writen around the net in reality we need to see. But note that VU+duo can record 6 HD chanels simultaneously and dm8000 can't.
2. VU+duo has excelent build quality, they did not spare any expense in quality parts, after all its made in korea not china.
3. I think beside deep sleep recording, there are only manufacturing changes as the demand for this box is extremely high.

I will definetely get VU+duo over dm8000 here is why:
+VU+ has 50% more ram.
+Has newer and faster cpu.
+Has sylicone tuners which are integrated with this cpu.
+Has e-sata.
+It works faster than DM8000
+It's more than half the price of dm8000
========
-on the other side DM8000 has slots for extra terrestrial tuner (but its matter of days when VU+ gets support for usb DTT) and I personaly don't needed bcs all my TVs at home have built DTT.
-also has 4 cam slots while VU has 2 (but who needs more than two cams in emu world)
-has CF reader which noone uses and has digital coaxial audio jack suitable for older amplifiers.

No one knows if PIP will ever be available on the VU tbh. Some sat there is a hardware limitation but aome disagree with that opinion.

I guess we have to wait and see.

the CPU of VU+duo is dualthreaded, in theory it should be able to do PIP, only the right software is needed.

just got an email from my supplier getting sent out tonight for delivery tomorrow, it is rev:2.3 with white remote. i don't know what has changed again, but i guess more fixes.

so now the question, what is the best/easiest image to setup for the use with Sky UK with the white sky card ?. i guest it is CCcam emu but could someone give me step by step instructions on how t set it up ?, i have only ever used NewCS & MGcamd on my CubeRevo.

also how would i link my CubeRevo to share the card in the Vu+ Duo as it can't use CCcam ?

hope someone can help me,

cheers

Andy.

i have question i know its a bit of an old thread but... if a dm500 clone ($40) with a pip plugin can manage to show PIP although 2nd picture is grainy and black and white - why cant a high tech box like vu+ do it using a plugin as it has two tuners... i know it has only one decrypter... but why can a very limited old box like dmv500 manage it yet vu+ with all its extras can't?

the arrival of the clarke-tech box made me ask this question

No one but VU can answer that question mate, its not the hardware, that is said to be capable so you can only assume its a driver issue.

BCM7335 has only one video decoder, thus no PiP/PaP. This is stated in the specifications of the chipset from Broadcom.

BCM7405 used in DM500HD, DM800se and new ET9000 have capability of two video decoders, however second decoder can only playback SD content. DMM has PiP disabled on DM500HD and DM800se although the chip is capable. My guess is that they don't want to hurt sales of their premium DM8000 box.
ET9000 indeed does PiP with two SD or one HD and one SD channels.

I personally don't find PiP/PaP feature very important and I would not base my purchase on this.

PiP on DM500 is not real PiP. DM500 doesn't have dual video decoders, only DM7025 has (from the old SD boxes)
