hi

My ipbox has been sitting without power for a few months.

Tried to turn it on today, but all I get is a short flash of the blue powerled, and then nothing... it gives a little click.. that's it..

Any ideas? help..!

Yeah, mine did that after being unpowered for just a few days.
A general tip is to take it apart and unplug the cable for the display. Then turn it on and if it boots, replug the cable.
That worked for me 1 time.
Next time i unpowered it, i got the flash/ click again and none of the tricks you can google has worked since.
So if you ever get it working again... Never unpower. :(

Will post again, if i find the cause.

I have a similar problem with my box. I left it turned off for a month and when I turned it on it got stuck in Booting, then went to Epic fail. A serial log indicates that it is not communicating with the STARCI2WIN chip. I don't know if this can be repaired or if it is time for a new motherboard if I can find one.

Update
I sent my Motherboard off to this guy and he has replaced a chip and it is still with him on test.

Did you find a fix for the power problem? I have same kind of problem with my IP9000... Starts only without the display panel(black cables), if you reconnect it power will go off.

I got my 90000HD back last May, after a week with the large Audio/Video chip replaced. It has been working faultlessly since. Total cost including postage was about 50 Euros.

So your symptoms were same before the fix? One audio/video chip is STV6412BD located next to the tuners and SCART. Looks like DIY job if you can find the chip and are skilled enough... ;) I think I will try try to fix my 9000 and get it back to life.

BTW, my new GigaBlue quad rocks!:clapping:

My chip had a slight burn on the surface which I originally thought was done by a soldering iron, but it turned out to be blown from the inside and had erupted to the surface.
It is the one with 16 legs on each of the 4 sides.
I finally found out how to post a picture:thum:

Hi

I´ve just bought a secondhand (dead) 9000HD for about 20 pounds.
Tought it was worth a try to by and fix it up.

As soon I got it home I took it apart and found a capacitor in the powersupply with a bulging top, C21 on the 5V rail.
I replaced it and the box started just fine.

Checked the others caps and soldering but found noting more direct in need to change, so I installed a HDD and put it together again.

So now my big problem is to learn how to configure the Diseq setup for my 8-way switch (I´m new to Linuxboxes).

Thanks to tvper! I got power also to my old box. C21 outside was looking just good but after I measured it got only 14pF. It should be 470µF/10V. Now when I put the power on I get one flash on the dox display and after that power button led starts to flash. Still something wrong...

Hi Jykke

I can´t bee shure but in my experience of PSUs I would try to change the high value caps (1000uF).
To test you could just solder new ones in parallel with the old ones, but be careful there´s high mains power i the board.

If one cap has lost capacitance the rest could easily done the same.
This is no shure answer but its a easy start in falutfinding.
When I mesured the 5V it showed ca 5V but I didnt check with my scope so I didnt se the overlayed high-frequency.

Do you get any light on the display?

Im still a newbie on Linux(-boxes etc) but flashing powerbutton could indicate problems with firmware?
