tested on 2 ways, first is putting a avi file on usb and plugged into my router.
and the second way is sharing the film folder on my pc, which is wireless connected on the network.
on both ways the files are playing good without any problems.
i have not tried to play a mkv file

I´ve a Dreambox 500HD connect by ethernet with a Iomega Hard Disk and it plays very well all the movies I've stored there.
Unhappyly it does not read the legends (.srt) that I putin the same directory of the movies, with the same name, and in encoding UTF-8.
Which will be the problem?

MKV is working fine as long as you use the H.264/MPEG video codex that the broadcom chip can decode in hardware. Divx is also working but some blocks can be seen depending on the bitrate & Codec used (DIV5 or DIV6). Dix Plus HD converter is using the standard MKV/H.264, it's free and it can be read up to 1080i by the dreambow without any problem (tested with my HD camcorder footage)

My DM500HD with Gemini 5.0 playing my collection of .mkv & .avi (DivX) HD files stored on my network-hdd via LAN very well. The DTS & AC3 pass-through to av receiver is also perfect.
t plays back the mp3 collection without problems.

Hi
Sharing a folder on your PC and configuring networbrowser roll almost all video files (mkv, avi ..) but do not read the subtitles (srt)
It will require some pluguin or extension in the box? Or has no solution?

Configured with VLC and roll movies avi + mkv subtitles but do not roll.
Is the VLC? I use version 0.9.8.
Or is it lack of codecs on your PC?

Hi!
I have the exact same problem. With converted bluray with makemkv, the player shows the subtitles, but says they are incompatible. Have tryed to put a .srt file in the same directory as the one from the movie, but it doesn't work

So the .srt should work some how....

Will do some more checking later..

GizmoPower can you post the header and footer of the working .srt
or a link to the subtitle.

Can't remember now and I can't check at the moment (not here)...

Which plugins did you install and test?

I'm using the native media player that comes with Gemini2 v5.0. No specific subtilte plugins installed.

I'm scared to update/flash the firmware as I've already had the "DM500hd green light of death" issue once.

Try various plugins: Ddamir's or whatever else is there and then see...

Make sure the subtitles are named the same as the film (minus the extension/ending, of course)!

Then, try the subs button or Menu and do tell...

Hi, Ddamir's plugin seems to work only for movies from the dish. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

But I need subtitles for movies that I've loaded on the external HDD.

Thank you!

No, you do not: simply find the file online, put it in the same folder as the film, name it the same as the film and then press the "text" button, if I remember correctly - and confirm...
