ITV# nears MediaCity move decision

Tuesday, December 7

ITV# is reportedly close to announcing a decision on its proposed relocation to the new MediaCity:UK complex at Salford Quays, after a week of fresh speculation.

The commercial broadcaster has been mulling over a move to the new North West media hub for the past two years, but has so far not reached a firm decision.

Last month, it was reported that ITV was coming to the end of protracted talks with MediaCity developer Peel Holdings about the move, which would see Coronation Street relocate from its long-time home at Quay Street studios in central Manchester.

Renewed# speculation surfaced last week after bosses at Salford University claimed that ITV would be joining them in a building at MediaCity across the public square from the BBC's new complex.

Speaking to the Financial Times, the university's vice-chancellor professor Martin Hall said: "ITV# is moving in above us."

It is thought that ITV could secure office space at MediaCity and move Coronation Street to a site on the opposite side of the Manchester Ship Canal, close to the Imperial War Museum North.

Peel Holdings declined to comment on the speculation, but a senior source told the newspaper that a deal with ITV was close.

In a statement, ITV said: "We are examining all options and hoping to make a decision soon#."

A move to MediaCity would give ITV# access to the one of the biggest high definition studios in Europe without having to make a significant capital investment#.

Peel# has also signed a joint venture deal with Satellite Information Services for the firm to manage studio facilities, post-production, content and technical services at #MediaCity.
