3m dish and Egis motor

I need to install a 3 metres solid dish on Egis motor. Looking at specifications, it reads that maximum solid dish size would be 2.4m (3m mesh), but I believe this great motor could move solid 3m dishes, too. Maybe not heavy SMC dishes but lighter aluminium dishes. What do you think? Anyone experienced similar installations? Any opinion and suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Francescone,

i spoke 2006 with Mr. Meixner the Owner of Egis in Germany. He told me its possible but its a need to mount behind the Dish a counterweight like this: http://www.egis.org/arot2_us.html

I hope this helps..

Regards Ebender!

I spoke to Mr. Meixner, too. Just by phone, and for totally different issues. I didn't know counterweight option. Very interesting, I surely will evaluate it. Thanks.

EbenDer, do you know if these counterweight are just for high speed wind load? Or for better daily usage, too? Thanks.

Adding an actuator is not costly at all, unless this dish doesn't come equipped with a polar mount.

I will NEVER change an Egis motor with a polarmount/actuator. Dish pointing would NEVER be so accurate and stable.
