Ostilio Ricci ( Fermo , 1540 - Florence , 1603 ) was a mathematician Italian . Professor Florence to the ' Academy of Arts and Design , founded in 1560 by Giorgio Vasari , was a teacher of the young Galileo Galilei . Galileo had been enrolled in the University of Pisa, from his father Vincenzo, to study medicine.
