Eutelsat W3B Launch update

EUTELSAT W3B SATELLITE ON TRACK FOR OCTOBER 28th will be an ARIANE LAUNCH
Kourou, Paris, 4 October 2010
The W3B satellite of Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) was flown into
French Guiana on September 30 and has been transferred to the Guiana Space Centre to
be readied for launch by Arianespace on October 28. Lift-off of the Ariane 5 ECA launch
vehicle is scheduled for October 28 in a launch window opening at 21.51 to 23.17 GMT
(23.51 to 01.17 CET).
Built by Thales Alenia Space, and weighing in at 5.4 tonnes, Eutelsat’s new satellite will be
located at 16 degrees East to renew and expand resources at a longstanding orbital
position that reaches out to some of the most dynamic markets in the satellite business.
In addition to providing increased capacity for rapidly-expanding video platforms in Central
Europe and Indian Ocean islands, W3B will initiate a new mission at 16° East, with
bandwidth and coverage for telecom operators and Internet Service Providers in Africa to
meet sustained demand for enterprise networks and GSM connectivity.
Scheduled to enter service at 16° East in December this year, the satellite will replace
Eutelsat’s EUROBIRD™ 16, W2M and SESAT 1 satellites which will all subsequently be
redeployed to alternative positions.
W3B’s 56 transponders will be connected to four distinct footprints:
· A high-power footprint of Central Europe for Direct-to-Home broadcasting;
· A widebeam spanning Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia for
professional video links and data networks;
· A high-power beam over Madagascar and Indian Ocean Islands for DTH
broadcasting;
· A beam sweeping across Sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean islands for
regional telecoms and Internet services. Interconnectivity with Europe will also be
possible via a combination of Ka-band frequencies in Europe and Ku-band
frequencies in Africa.
The satellite’s launch marks the latest step in Eutelsat’s far-reaching investment
programme of seven satellites (W3B, KA-SAT, W3C, ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7, W5A, W6A,
EUROBIRD™ 2) to be launched by early 2013 to expand, renew and secure the Group’s
in-orbit resources.

Eutelsat W3C will be delivered 07.10.2011

Telecommunication satellite Eutelsat W3C French satellite operator Eutelsat, will be delivered the Chinese carrier rocket Long March 3B Xichang from the spaceport of 7 October 2011.

Eutelsat W3C will work at the orbital position 16 Wed east, replacing the operation of the satellite Eutelsat Sesat, Eutelsat W2M and Eurobird 16A and thus ensuring continuity of services for Central and Eastern Europe, the Madagascar and allows the operator expansion into new markets.

Satellite Eutelsat Eutelsat W3C is the key. Existing satellites are in fact at the end of its expected life.

W3C is equipped with 53 transponders in Ku-and 3 Ka-band transponders. Capacity to position 16E uses including Sony Pictures to distribute AXN channel.

Launch date will be announced soon.

Eutelsat W3C will be located at 16° east longitude and will provide services Central and Eastern Europe, the French-speaking Indian Ocean Islands, and provide data services to Africa.

So it may launch tomorrow or next week we will have to wait & see nothing on the Eutelsat site as to the exact launch date.

Maybe something has been lost in the translation from Chinese to English that arrival means launch ?? ie arrival in the geostationary orbit we see tomorrow.

China successfully launched Europe's Eutelsat-W3C satellite on 7th Oct

After the TG-1 TinGong-1 launch success, China took another step in the international satellite market with the successful launch of the European Eutelsat-W3C communications satellite on Thursday. The launch took place at 08:20UTC using a Long March 3B/E (Chang Zheng-3B/E) launch vehicle.

Chinese Launch:

According to Eutelsat, the new W3C satellite will provide significant new capacity for broadcasting, telecommunications and broadband services, replacing the existing 3 Eutelsat satellites at 16 degrees East. This is a leading position for broadcast markets in Central and Eastern Europe, and also provides video services to the islands in the Indian Ocean.

Long March 3B/E used in this launch was introduced in 1996, it has a 13ton LEO and 5.5ton GTO capacity. Today's launch is the 17th of the Long March 3B series.

EUTELSAT, ONE GROUP, ONE NAME, ONE FLEET

EUTELSAT, ONE GROUP, ONE NAME, ONE FLEET

Eutelsat is unifying the names of its satellites with the Eutelsat brand. As of March 1st 2012 the Group’s satellites will all take the Eutelsat name, with the relevant figure for their orbital position and a letter indicating their order of arrival at that position. This logical pattern will enable our user community to immediately identify where a satellite is located and its chronology at the neighbourhood it occupies.

Current in-orbit satellites will be renamed as follows: W6 at 21.5° East, for example, will become EUTELSAT 21A. The future W6A satellite will become EUTELSAT 21B. To ensure clarity, satellites at Eutelsat’s four West positions will include West in their name. For example, ATLANTIC BIRD™ 2 will become EUTELSAT 8 West A.

Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD™ brand, which over 20 years has acquired an established reputation in the satellite TV industry, will be retained and associated with the Eutelsat brand and numbering system. For example, HOT BIRD™ 6 will become EUTELSAT HOT BIRD 13A.

SIS LIVE, operator of the largest satellite uplink fleet in Europe and the leading outside broadcast provider in the UK, is ramping up its access to permanent capacity on satellites operated by Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL). New contracts have been signed between both companies for significant capacity on the ATLANTIC BIRD 1 @ 12.5 west satellite and on W3C @ 16 east, Eutelsat’s newest satellite.

With multi-year leases guaranteeing access to 144 MHz of capacity on W3C and 36 MHz on ATLANTIC BIRD 1, SIS LIVE will benefit from an exceptional footprint covering the UK and Europe to serve the market for broadcast services.

The capacity will add flexibility to SIS LIVE’s pool of permanent resources, equipping it to meet broadcaster requirements for a stellar year of events in 2012 that will include the UK Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in addition to Formula One, Wimbledon Championships, European Tour Golf and the 2012 European football championship in Poland and the Ukraine. It will also support SIS LIVE’s expanding business operations in France.

David Meynell, Managing Director, SIS LIVE says: “Having worked closely with Eutelsat for many years, we are pleased to be able to extend our joint operations. This will enable SIS LIVE to offer our existing and new customers enhanced services and provide them with wider and even more robust access to the global satellite network.”

Andrew Wallace, Eutelsat Chief Commercial Officer commented: “In advance of an exceptional year for TV viewing, we are delighted to consolidate our relationship with SIS LIVE, an industry reference for outside broadcasting and uplink services. SIS LIVE is continuously seeking to enhance its broadcast facilities and we are committed to leveraging our experience and resources to meet its expectations and those of its clients.”
