OTT service TVPlayer adds 11 channels

November 15, 2016 18.25 Europe/London By Robert Briel

TVPlayer adds 11 channels including ITV2, Film4 and E4 bringing the total to 75 free-to-air channels available on mobile, tablet or computer.

TVPlayer is an online TV platform which streams live TV across multiple devices. Thanks to a deal it struck with ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, it now offers over 75 free-to-air channels, plus an optional bundle of more than 30 others for £4.99 a month without a contract.

“We’re massively simplifying the TV streaming experience, bringing all the channels onto one great service so you no longer have to move between different websites and apps,” commented Rob Hodgkinson, CCO at TVPlayer.

“This new deal is an exciting step forward for consumers and we’re expecting a surge in viewers as a result.”

ITV Hub, All4 and My5 give UK viewers the chance to watch their favourite programmes on mobiles, tablets and PCs, but via their own individual apps. In the UK 23% of streaming is now done on smartphones.

Interestingly, more people watched the US election than the England vs Scotland World Cup qualifiers on Friday night and TVPlayer users are three times more likely to be watching X Factor than Strictly on a Saturday night.

“We’ve seen a phenomenal growth in users over the last twelve months and it shows that people want convenience,” said Hodgkinson.

“People are living busier lives and they want to be able to watch their favourite shows wherever they want, rather than restricted to their living room.

The additional channels now available on TVPlayer are ITV2, ITV3, ITVBe, CITV, More4, Film4, E4, 4Seven, 5Star, Spike. The new channels join the likes of BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, 4Music, CNN and Dave – all available as part of TVPlayer’s free package of over 75 channels. For £4.99 a month, TVPlayer Plus also offers access to 30 premium channels, including MTV, Comedy Central, Gold, TLC and Eurosport 1 and 2.

As well as iOS and Android apps for phones and tablets, TVPlayer is also available via over-the-top devices like Amazon Fire, Apple TV and Samsung TV, or on laptops via a browser.
