'Star Wars' characters to appear in UK TV ad

Wednesday, October 20 2010

MoviesBroadcastingStar Wars droids C-3P0 and R2-D2 will appear in UK TV adverts for Currys and PC World.

The commercial, which will debut as a 60-second 'director's cut' during this Saturday's X Factor, will feature the iconic characters crash-landing in a car park at night and breaking into a store to interact with the products on sale.

References will be made to Star Wars characters Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt, and the escape pod the bickering robots use at the start of A New Hope will also feature.

Anthony Daniels reprises his role as C-3PO in the campaign, which includes outdoor ads photographed by David Bailey.

Dixons Retail UK marketing director Niall O'Keefe said: "Who better than C-3PO and R2-D2, arguably two of the most well-known characters in film history, to showcase exactly how vast our Megastores really are!

"Working with Anthony Daniels was an incredible experience, and we hope that we have really captured the essence of C-3PO and R2-D2 to create a campaign that will appeal to the legions of fans who have supported Star Wars over the years."

O'Keefe added that the advert will be broadcast into space via US firm Deep Space Communications Network
