Starbucks and BT strike a Wi-Fi deal
T Mobile, which has provided Wi-Fi hotspots in Starbucks for the last six years, is being replaced by BT as the main provider of Wi-Fi services, although the deal will see T Mobile continuing to provide a complimentary service running alongside the BT service.
BT will be using this opportunity to increase its Openzone network.
Many of BT broadband customers get Openzone minutes included in with their bill, but are sometimes not using them because they are unable to access the network.
The installation of the equipment will begin this week and it is expected that by the end of the summer the rollout of the Wi-Fi service will be completed.
The contract for the Wi-Fi service is initially for five years.
