Tm9100 Communications Setup

++1. Connecting the TM-9100 to your LAN

Depending on how you are going to connect to your TM-9100, you will need either a Crossover or straight Ethernet cable.

* if you are connecting straight to the TM from your PC, you will need a crossover Ethernet cable

* if you are connected to the TM through a router to your PC, you will need a straight Ethernet cable

2. Communication setup on your TM-9100

The next step is to ensure your TM is correctly setup to use the connection to your router or PC.

On your TM-9100 select ‘Setup’ on your remote control then go to

Then go to ‘Expert Setup’

Then ‘Communications setup’

You should then be greeted with the screen below

dhcp_1.gif

IP Assign your TM-9100 an IP address, Usually Lan address’ start 192.168.x.x
So assign an address that no other PC or xbox is using on your network. eg 192.168.1.100

Netmask This is generally set at 255.255.255.0

Type Default setting for Local Area Network (LAN)

Nameserver & Gateway If you are using a router to connect to the internet, enter its IP address in both of these boxes. If you are not using a routerand the ‘Type’ is set to LAN,then normally these boxes can be disregarded.

Once completed reboot your TM by selecting ‘MENU’, ‘REBOOT’ then ‘REBOOT NOW’

You should now be able to communicate with your box. We will now look at setting up DCC which will allow us to FTP and Telnet into the TM-9100. We have not yet added a new image to the TM to allow us to install EMU’s etc … but that will come

3. DCC Dreambox Control Center

As said previously this tool will allow you to ftp and telnet into your TM-9100. It will also confirm if your communications setup is correct.

The latest DCC is version 2.95 and can be downloaded from here DCC Homepage

Download the latest file and extract it to your PC then run the exe file and you should be greeted with the following screen below

dcc_test.jpg

Once you click the ‘Search button under the Dreambox icon, then you should see the screen below;

dccsearch.jpg

Here you can see it has found 2 devices.

192.168.1.1 In this case , that is the router IP
192.168.1.100 Is the IP address of your TM 9100

You can click on the address for the TM IP and select Accept. The same can be done for the Router IP address. Once done select ‘Reconnect’ under the ‘This computer window’ and if successful you should see the screen as below;

This now means you have connectivity to your TM from your PC.

Updating Firmware In Flash

It is advisable that you have the box on a FTA channel and
in standby before following this procedure.
You will need to download TCC 6 (Technomate Control Center)
from here and extract it to your PC.

Click on TCC6 to open and you should have the following screen;

tcc.jpg

Click on “UPDATE”

tcc_update.jpg

Ensure that you already have the correct IP address and password
set up (if you are not sure then look at section 7.
Once done, click on “Auto Update” and you should get the screen below;

tcc_browse.jpg

Scroll down to the folder where you have the image stored and choose
the correct type of file for the model you are uploading to.then select OK

The image should start downloading to your BOX, watch the screen on
the TV and it should say completed once done, but all this means it that
the file has been transfered to the box. Now WAIT you will see it erasing
and writing and when all that is complete, it has finished. Remember to do
a factory reset after its installed.
(Press the up button on the front of the box then cycle the power button
at the back off then on) and select factory reset from the options.

Installing A Hdd

All your need is a small philips screw driver and a hard drive.

In this guide is a maxtor 250gb is being used

OK, on the back of your 9100 there are 3 screws holding the casing on,
undo these and slide the case away from the front of the 9100,it's also
clipped behind the power input so keep an eye on that if you think it stuck.

Gently pull out the ID cable and power cable from under the cradle,
then plug them in

hdd1.jpg

Use 2 screws to keep the HD in place in the cradle(need to find 2 as there not supplied)

hdd2.jpg

Screw top panel back on and power up.

Now to format the hard drive you need to do the following

Menu
System set up
Hard drive set up
press OK
red button to format
Reboot.

Now go back into your HD setting and it should tell you which
HD you have installed.

hdd3.jpg

note:
jumper settings are not mentioned here i set my hdd for cable
select which allowed the Hdd to be used. I don't know if the HDD
will interact with mmc devices but they seem to be on the same bus.
hopefully someone can clarify the situation.

Installing Iboot

*WARNING* if you are connected via component connections to your TV you
will not see you Iboot menu as component does not support overlay video.

IBoot is a Windows application which allows you once configured to install,
remove, backup and restore various firmware’s to your receiver. When booting
up your receiver a menu making it possible to select which you wish to load
appears. The firmware is stored on a sd memory card inserted in the
Technomate 9100, or on Hard Disk.

Having previously done a Factory re-set and installed a new image in flash
you MUST set up a password before you can use the Iboot Program.
Using Technomate Control Center

TCC.jpg

Press the "Update" button and this window will appear

TCCpasschange.jpg

Now press the "PW change" button and this window appears

TCCenterpass.jpg

In the top box you must put the IP address of the TM
In the next box put root
In the next box is what the password is now. This will be left with nothing
in it for all images except for
DS images where you enter dsteam.
For Juliet images enter technomate.
For some UR images enter admin.
In the other two boxes enter the password you wish to use. Now click on
"Change" and a dos box will pop up if all is ok then vanish again and a little
window will open saying "Change Password Success"
Now you must remember the password you set for use in Iboot and other
TM tools. Should you forget it, do a factory re-set and start again.

For best results always install Iboot on an original image in flash

Startscreen.jpg

To begin click the settings button (top left) and fill in the connection
details for your Technomate 9100 including ip address, user name,
password and a name for this connection such as TM9100.

Config.jpg

Once configured you need to insert an sd card into your receivers card slot.
The bigger the better as this will allow you to experiment with more images,
but I think 2gig is the max size you can use.

Click on the "Check Iboot media Mount" button and this window will open

CheckMount.jpg

Click to either select mmc or hdd and then click on "Check/Mount" button.
Watch the window and after the task has completed it should say that the
mmc or if you selected it, the hdd has been mounted ok.

Ok now close this window and click on the "Install iboot on Box" button
(second from top on left) and you will see a screen that looks something
like this

InstallIboot.jpg

Notice that under the heading "Media" you enter "/mmc" or "/hdd"
(Without the quotes) depending where you wish to install Iboot.

Only select to format the memory card if this is a new installation or you
want to clear the card. If you are re-installing Iboot because you have
changed your flash image and want to keep all the images you had in mmc,
do NOT format it.
Now proceed to install iboot by clicking the install iboot button,

Note that the section middle right to do with swap file is greyed out at
this time, we will come back to that. Watch the window and the box as
it begins to load files checking for any errors. You will need to ask for
help on our forums at tm9100.co.uk should something go wrong.

When completed you will see this.

Ibootinstalledok.jpg

Once the software has been successfully installed return back to the
Main screen by closing this window. Now press the "Install Iboot on Box"
button again to configure the Swap file. Some images require a swap file
on an sd card to use as a scratch pad or just to store extra information like
the EPG files. The bigger the swap file the better. When you have selected
either the Hdd or Memory card for the swap file and the size of the swap
file, a new button will appear bottom right just for configuring the swap file,
press that and wait for it to complete, it can take some time.

SwapFile.jpg

On completion return to the main screen and choose "Install firmware."
(Please note you must be booted into the Flash image when installing
other images into Iboot)
Browse your computer for the firmware you wish to load into Iboot,
Give the firmware a name (this will appear in the boot up menu when
you restart your receiver) You may include spaces and they will
automatically be replaced with underscores when installed.

After a successful install restart your receiver, choose one of your installed
image names from the green menu that appears after the splash screen and
play with your new firmware image.

*WARNING* if you are connected via component connections to your TV you
will not see you Iboot menu as component does not support overlay video.

The process above is almost identical when installing iboot onto a hard disk.
See the tm9100.co.uk forum for more details.

Tm9100 Changing Passwords

It is vital that with any image that you should change from the default
password to one that only you know. To do this we use a tool called
TCC6 (Technomate Control Center)

Most of the images have a common username ‘root’ The default
password for the other images are generally as follows;

Username = root
Password for Beta image = BLANK (AS IN NOTHING)
Password for DS image = dsteam
Password for juliet = technomate
Password for UR5/6 = admin
Password for UKUR = BLANK (AS IN NOTHING)
Password for EDG = BLANK (AS IN NOTHING)

So to change the passwords we will need download TCC6.

Once downloaded extract to your PC and then run the program file.

* it is important that your firewall is set that it doesn’t block this program*

tcc.jpg

Click on update

tcc_update-1.jpg

Then select PW Change

tcc_pw.jpg

Ensure you input the correct IP address of your TM-9100. Also input the
correct password in the ‘current password’ field of the image you are using

Then input a new password in the next 2 fields. Once done select Change

The following will appear, just select Run

tcc_pw_warn.jpg

A black box should then briefly appear and the disappear,
if all successful you should get the following;

pw_ok.jpg

Password has now been changed

TELNET Method:

There is, of course, a "geek" method too of changing the password Z:)
This method is universal for any Linux/Unix based operating system.
Please note that unlike Windows/DOS, Linux/Unix is sensitive to letter case! "passwd" and "Passwd" are not the same!

* Open a Telnet session:

You can use any one of the countless Telnet client applications,
but if you are Windows user, the easiest is:

Click {Start}, choose {Run} and type: Telnet 10.0.0.101
(where 10.0.0.101 is the IP address of your receiver).

If you do not know the IP address, you can retrieve it from
the TM9100 "Communication Settings" menu.

* You should now be prompted with a Logon.

Type: root and hit {Enter}

* You are now prompted with Password.

Type: theoldpassword and hit {Enter}
You are now logged in as the Linux/Unix administrator.

* Now, to change the password:

Type passwd and hit {Enter}

* You will be prompted to type-in the new password.

Type: yournewpassword and hit {Enter}
You will be prompted to retype the new password.
Type: yournewpassword and hit {Enter}

Voila! You should now see the message saying that the password has been changed.

* To close the Telnet session:

Type exit and hit {Enter} and you are done.

Download A Channel List With Dreamboxedit

You can rearrange the channels on your TM9100 to make them
easier to navigate but why bother when someone else has already
done this for you? This quick guide will have you up and running
with a new channel list in a few minutes.

1. Download dreamboxedit as a zip file
2. Extract the files to a working directory (I used C:/Program Files/Dreamboxedit/ on my PC)
3. Create a working directory for the data files. For simplicity I used C:/Program Files/Dreamboxedit/Data/
4. Download the channel list you want to use
5. Extract the channel list files to your new working directory
6. Launch dreamboxedit.exe

image001.jpg

7. On the Profiles tab under Options, change the IP address of Dreambox
to the IP address of your Technomate and click Test IP Connection to
confirm that this worked.
8. Change the Password on Dreambox to your TM9100s password
(technomate is the default on manufacturer images).
9. Click Test Username / Password to confirm everything is working so far!
10. If everything works, click the Save button to save this as your default profile
11. You will now be at the dreamboxedit main screen.

image002.jpg

12. Click the FTP Button to load the FTP screen and type
the name of your working directory, in my case Data.

image003.jpg

13. Click the Back button to return to the main screen and click the
folder icon to open a listing of files in your working directory. From this
list select the channel list you downloaded earlier and click OK.
14. You should now return to the main screen with your chosen channel list loaded
15. Edit the channel list if required. The most likely edit you will want
to do is to sort the Services screen by satellite (Just by clicking the
heading Satellite) and then deleting all services for those satellites that
you are not able to recieve. Deleting the channel from the services list
will also remove it from the bouquets.
16. Once you are happy with the look of your channel list, click the
FTP button once more and click the Send Files to Dreambox button.
17. If you have edited the list you will be prompted to save the
changes you made, just accept this.
18. Once the FTP completes succesfully, click the Reload settings on
Dreambox button to activate the new channel list on the TM9100
19. Once the FTP log shows the message "Second of two steps completed.
Reload command ready." you are ready to use your new channel list.
20. Press up or down on the bouquet button on the TM9100 remote to
load the bouquet menu and press the blue button to select User Bouquets
and there you have your shiny new channel list

Streaming To Pda

How to stream to PDA over WiFi?

1. Install VLC on PC and TCPMP player on Pocket PC
(by Pocket PC I mean Windows Mobile - I am using WM6).

2. [VLC]: File->Open Network Stream

3. [VLC]: HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS URL: http://root:<password>@<TM9100_IP>/video.m3u

4. [VLC]: Select Stream/Save->Settings

5. [VLC]: Select MMSH, leave Address field open, choose
whatever port you want, I am using default 1234.

6. [VLC]: Select encapsulation. After several experiments
I came to conclusion that ASF works best.

7. [VLC]: Select Video codec (whatever is better for your PPC - DIV3
for example. Or MJPEG if you feel adventurous). Choose bitrate.
Given small PPC screen I am using 384 Kbps.

8. [VLC]: Select Audio codec (mp3 or mpga). Bitrate 128Kbps

9. [VLC]: OK, OK

10. [TCPMP]: File->Open file

11. [TCPMP]: Type mms://<your_VLC_PC_IP>:<port> and press Go.
For example: mms://192.1.1.100:1234

If you have issues with smooth video movement, select (in TCPMP):
Options->Video->GDI and Options->Video->Quality->Low
