It was in October last year that Telenor and the Swedish media group Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent) announced that they would create a new company consisting of today's Viasat Consumer and Canal Digital.

After the EU competition authorities approved the merger on April 30, the transaction has now been completed and the name of the new company has also been launched: Allente.

Through the name change, the "Canal Digital" brand also disappears from the Norwegian market. Telenor has already renamed Canal Digital's cable TV and broadband operations in Norway to the Telenor name.

Viasat and Telenor own half each of the new company, and they expect to save NOK 600 million annually on the merger - which creates a large Nordic TV operator with the main focus on satellite TV.

The new company will have a total turnover of around NOK 7.0 billion. In total, the company has about 1.2 million customers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

In addition to satellite TV, the company offers streaming services, IPTV and broadband via open fiber networks.

- The TV industry is developing tremendously, but it is not every day that a new, major TV distributor comes on the scene. We are incredibly proud of our staff and the effort they have put in lately. It is good to see that our employees stand by and always put the customer first, and that of course we continue with Allente, says Bjørn Ivar Moen, CEO of Allente, in a statement.
