Singapore, 28th July 2006 -- For display enthusiasts who want more than just standard definition, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific is introducing 2 full high-definition televisions right into the homes in Asia Pacific. The KS-60R200A and KS-50R200A measure a generous 60 inches and 50 inches respectively in screen size. Fitted with the renowned third-generation Silicon X-tal (Crystal) Reflective Display (SXRD), both models deliver full 1920 horizontal and 1080 vertical pixels of high resolution. Each SXRD panel is made with greater consistency and efficiency as compared with conventional LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) panel. The SXRD panel is produced in Sony’s own manufacturing facilities using unique and sophisticated processes that directly benefits customers in both costs and quality. Sony’s Cinema Black Pro system enhances dynamic contrast ratio with 4 Advanced Iris settings that work like a human iris to control the amount of brightness on the display screen and highlight outstanding details in different light scenarios.

“Being a global leader in high definition broadcast and in digital cinematography equipment, Sony is extending its full high-definition capabilities to home consumers. The SXRD rear projection TVs represent the next generation in high definition and we are committed to extend our leadership in high-definition products in the consumer section. We are confident that the launch of the SXRD TV models will appeal to majority of the customers looking for the best high-definition entertainment right in their own homes, “states Mr Hiroshi Kikuchi, General Manager of Display Marketing Group, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific.

At the heart of the SXRD Rear Projection TV is the optical unit housing 3 of the world’s smallest micro display panels. Each SXRD panel determines the individual colours red, green and blue, and reflects light with over 2 million native pixels to support Full HD 1080p. Its exceptionally high contrast ratio of up to 10,000: 1 is a direct result of the synergy between the SXRD panel (which has a native 5,000:1 contrast ratio), and the Advanced Iris. This combination creates Cinema Black Pro, and can be set in 4 modes – “High”, “Mid”, “Low” and “Off”. The “Off” mode is recommended for live programming such as sports and news while the “High” mode is suitable for action-packed movies. This variable iris setting ensures the optimal brightness and contrast for vivid and clear picture quality.

Sony’s unique BRAVIA Engine high definition signal processing converts analogue inputs to digital with minimised loss in picture quality and reduced video “noise” during conversion. Noise signal reduction is made possible by advanced Sony algorithm technology that provides the widest dynamic range possible. BRAVIA Engine also analyses signals and optimises picture contrast for the ultimate viewing experience.

For sound boast, the SXRD models are equipped with SRS TruSurround to create life-like scenario sounds and effects in the living room. Both models are digital cable ready, with an integrated CableCARD slot. Its multi-connectivity features such as the HDMI inputs, 2 i.Link inputs (IEEE 1394), PC input, optical audio output and a Memory Stick flash viewer offer customers the widest options to utilise the full high- definition SXRD TVs. The new BRAVIA SXRD models are available in Asia Pacific in August.

Singapore, July 2006 -- Sony introduces the new sophisticated DAV-FXG9K home theatre system that offers 4 different types of possible speaker formations without compromising on dynamic sound quality. The uniquely designed DAV-FXG9K home theatre system offers flexible setup to suit various room layouts and dimensions for a sleek feel at home. Utilising Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC), the DAV-FXG9K simplifies sound system setup by detecting the arrangement of speakers in any layout and adjusts its virtual sound to create optimal sound. Sony’s unique S-Force technology enables versatility for 5.1ch surround sound with just 2 front speakers and a subwoofer instead of the usual 4 speakers, by adjusting to the reproduction of the sound to create a three-dimensional environment.

“We are always exploring ways to produce home theatre systems with outstanding sound quality and enhanced features for consumers’ enjoyment. Now, home theatre enthusiasts can look forward to creating a custom home entertainment environment with this easy-to-setup home theatre system that can adapt to any room with its flexible speaker arrangements and automated calibration, packed in a sleek design, “said Yasushi Hasegawa, General Manager, Home Audio Visual Division, Sony Marketing Asia Pacific.

Easy Setup in Any Room

The modern lifestyle of today calls for creativity in home concept and the DAV-FXG9K is able to fit into any home and space area with its 4 speaker formations, which are selectable from an on-screen display detailing speaker placement. Regardless of a long and narrow or an odd-shaped room, listeners can still enjoy optimal sound performance with this multi-speaker formation function.

Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC)

Setting up a home theatre system in any shape and size of the room to achieve the optimum sound is now made easy with Sony’s DCAC technology. It can identify the placement of the speakers even in asymmetrical positions and reproduces virtual sound effect that makes the listener feel right in the middle of the sound field. The DCAC greatly optimizes the sound potential of the DAV-FXG9K home theatre system by compensating for acoustic deficiencies in the room.

S-Force Technology

Leveraging on Sony’s knowledge of 5.1ch surround sound technology and the study of human ears to recognise sound origins and directions, the S-Force technology is developed to create virtual surround sound for human ears to perceive. It uses sound delay to distinguish volume and timing in consideration for both right and left ear. Unlike other manufactures that uses echoes of the sound that bounces off the walls to the listener, the DAV-FXG9K can produce 5.1ch surround sound effect to be enjoyed in any enclosed area, even in a tent.

Sound Amplifier with 32-bit S-Master

The DAV-FXG9K uses Sony’s proprietary 32-bit S-Master digital amplifier technology to boast 512 times of enhanced audio experience more than the original sound, making it ideal for an in-house movie session or a house party. The fully digitalised signal processing of 32-bit S-Master further decreases heat generation and minimises sound distortion for the DAV-FXG9K.

Elegantly built to complement Sony’s BRAVIA televisions, the DAV-FXG9K can be connected to the television via its all-digital High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) for fast and accurate transmission.

The DAV-FXG9K is available in Asia Pacific from August onwards.
