French competition authority rejects Molotov’s TF1-M6 complaint

May 1, 2020 13.35 Europe/London By Julian Clover

l’Autorité de la concurrence has thrown out a complaint by the French streaming platform Molotov that had accused commercial channels TF1 and M6 of having “brutally and abusively” broken the distribution agreements of their channels.

“The Authority, which reviewed the various elements of the case and sought the advice of the CSA, considered that neither the referral nor the investigation file could support the alleged practices” the French competition authority said in a statement.

Molotov had accused TF1 and M6 of having ceased distribution of their channels in the run up to the launch of Salto, the French streaming platform run jointly by the commercial stations and the French public broadcaster France Televisions.

The authority added “there is no evidence to demonstrate the existence of a dominant position collectively held by the France Télévisions, TF1 and M6 groups”.
