Thanx to babba:

Azbox Elite HD Premium users Read this Speedup Turtorial.

Hi

I decided to write this mini help for other Azbox Elite and HD premium users

After some weeks of testing i run into troubles about DOM - size and no memory and a slow or stuck Azbox with the latest 4.2 firmware.
Problem is the image is to big and to heavy for an azbox to use it as full glory mediabox
If you want to use it as a simple Sat box and use a NFS share with Enhanced movies center you can remove alot firmware and drivers that are not needed. All wireless related stuff is removed too !!

In my case i removed all unused things to speedup the box, i left only

* Sat tuner
* Basic Networking
* EPG
* Movie center
* Telnet
* vsftpd

So with above stuff i can watch SAT , i can record it , i can use a NFS share and i can playback.

To test it out your self open a telnet session and execute next command:

Code:
opkg remove --force-depends --force-remove wpa* wireless-tools  tzdata-africa tzdata-americas tzdata-asia tzdata-australia  tzdata-pacific smbclient sambaserver samba rtl8192cu rt61-firmware  packagegroup-base-ipv6 packagegroup-base-smbfs  packagegroup-base-smbfs-client oe-alliance-wifi openssh-sftp-server  kernel-module-r* kernel-module-usbserial kernel-module-zd1211rw  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-positionersetup  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-mphelp firmware-* enigma2-plugin-drivers*  volatile-media rtmpdump kernel-module-mac80211 kernel-module-at*  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-blindscan  enigma2-plugin-extensions-epgsearch  enigma2-plugin-extensions-cutlisteditor  enigma2-plugin-extensions-dvdplayer  enigma2-plugin-extensions-supportchannel  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-autobouquetsmaker  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-commoninterfaceassignment  enigma2-plugin-extensions-mediaplayer  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-cablescan dropbear libavahi*  kernel-module-belkin-sa enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-wirelesslan  avahi-daemon azbox-blindscan-dvbs-utils domextender  kernel-module-carl9170 kernel-module-pl2303 kernel-module-ftdi-sio  packagegroup-base-wifi kernel-module-8192cu

Just copy above code into your telnet and press enter

After this reboot your blazing fast box and you wil have 30MB ram left and 26 MB DOM !! Yay congrats you did it. ( Yes even the Ocram SHD picons fit into root )
My advice is to do this from a fresh new install !

What you could do next is boot into recovery mode and set the overclock , use the next command

Code:
setxenv -f /dev/mtdblock1 -b -k x.pll3 -v 0x01020069

Above command is stable and fast for me !

Good luck

** Your box is l33t now after a reboot

Hi, thanks for the guide.

You say the latest 4.2... but ATV is at 5.1, OpenSpa at 4.0.004, OpenRSI at 3.0, HDMU at 14422 or 2422, Alonzo at 2.2.

What image is that that have latest version at 4.2?

Babba says that. I just quoted him, guys...

Yes, the latest is 5.1 but I haven't tested it, sorry...

I gave the box away, as I wrote about it earlier... the 4.1 version in it...

Good luck and tell it like it is, please, when you do test it, on any model... ;)

Just a short feedback.
I just tested OpenATV 5.1 and 4.2
Both from the nightly download area, 2015-09-25 version

The 5.1 does install, and will boot up, displaying the Openatv logo on the TV. The front display shows "loading 49%", but nothing more happens. I think this is because the flash is getting full. So this image probably needs a bigger DOM to work on the Premium.

Version 4.2 installed normally and I have set it up and installed Oscam 1.20 on it. Now there is only 7 MB left in flash space. I havent removed anything yet, but I will do. But i want to have smbfs so that I can mount my NAS disk as cifs. Also I'm not sure if I want to remove the wifi option entirely.

Just a tip for anyone that wants to install a cam in this image. Do not install the Pli softcam manager from the plugin installer. It will only give you an error everytime you open the plugin list. Install the softcam feed provided in this thread http://www.sat-universe.com/showthread.php?t=280530
Then restart gui and go to the plugin download list again, then there will be a cam section in the list. Once you have installed a cam from the list, reboot enigma again. Then the built-in softcam manager will be shown from the blue-button menu.

I just stripped the commandline, and leaving out the wifi and the smbfs related stuff.

So the command line is like this:
Code:
opkg remove --force-depends --force-remove tzdata-africa tzdata-americas tzdata-asia tzdata-australia  tzdata-pacific  sambaserver samba rt61-firmware  packagegroup-base-ipv6 openssh-sftp-server  kernel-module-r* kernel-module-usbserial kernel-module-zd1211rw  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-positionersetup  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-mphelp firmware-* enigma2-plugin-drivers*  volatile-media rtmpdump kernel-module-mac80211 kernel-module-at*  enigma2-plugin-extensions-epgsearch  enigma2-plugin-extensions-cutlisteditor  enigma2-plugin-extensions-dvdplayer  enigma2-plugin-extensions-supportchannel  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-autobouquetsmaker  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-commoninterfaceassignment  enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-cablescan dropbear libavahi*  kernel-module-belkin-sa    domextender  kernel-module-carl9170 kernel-module-pl2303 kernel-module-ftdi-sio avahi-daemon enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-blindscan azbox-blindscan-dvbs-utils

This did free some space, before 7MB, now 15MB free.
But RAM is the same, about 12MB free.

I also applied the overclock, so the CPU now reports 360Mhz.
It looks good so far.

If it's the space - install it to USB stick, m8! At least 1GB! Then do tell... ;)

No, space is ok. At least for now. What I wanted was a faster and more stable box. I thought that removing those packages would free some RAM as well.
Anyway, I have now removed the wifi stuff as well. The only thing that is left from your command is the smbfs packages.

BTW. Do you have any details about that overclocking command, how to set different frequencies?
- what to enter if I want to set it back to the normal 300mhz, or what to enter if I want a lower overclock like 330mhz.

Sorry, no idea... I remember The_Ripper once talking about it, long time ago but that is it... I never messed with it, since there were way too many bugs anyway... All I needed was the box stalling for good... :D

The commands were taken from babba, of course... ;) The whole post! :)

Are you using SWAP - or is it there by default, maybe?

Cheers!

Swap is there, by default I guess. I have not done anything to set it up.

I dont know how much that swap is in use anyway. When looking at meminfo it looks like the swap area is almost not used.
Original DOM is 256MB. Main partition is 177MB and the swap around 60MB. Many images have trouble with low space, so perhaps it would be better to have swap set to 32MB and have the system partition 205MB?

About the overclocking, I found a post at satimps with some more details:

This command will set it back to 300Mhz:
setxenv -f /dev/mtdblock1 -b -k x.pll3 -v 0x01020057

The last number will set the clock rate:
0x01020057 wil set it to 300375000 Hz
0x01020060 will give 330 MHz
0x01020065 this is the value used by OpenSat for overclock (347625000 Hz)
0x01020069 did set my box to 361125000 Hz

As a side note. CPU and DSP will be set to the same frequency. The system bus will also be affected by this.
Normally this is 200mhz. But setting the cpu to 330Mhz will set system bus to 220Mhz, a CPU at 360Mhz sets system bus to 240Mhz.

Now, be careful. One user reported that he set his box to far, and it was no longer booting.

I did now set my box to a more safe overclock, at 330Mhz.

gorski:
Do you happen to have the guide on how to dual-boot the Azbox, with E2 in DOM and OFW on USB?

I did find an old guide out there on how to do this. But it did require to flash a special kernel to the box. And the files needed to do this was no longer available.
And, I guess that since that was an old kernel, the ATV images will probably not work so well with that old kernel anyway.

Indeed. If I remember correctly, one needs the same kernel in both images, ergo this possibility is no longer available, speaking from the top of my head...

EDIT: maybe OpenSPA has it? Check before you dismiss it... ;)

No, I think there are 2 versions at least with some teams... 3.9.2 and 3.3.1, if memory serves...

But I can't search now, sorry...

OFW uses which kernels?

Excuse me I'm using a translator.

I have an E2 image for AZBOX ELITE HD, V6.2 that starts perfectly, but if I try to install 6.3 version it stops at 49% and no longer continues to load.

I do not understand why they have not solved it and why the images that we download from OPENATV are blocked in 49%.

How can I share the E2 image with you? I have thought that you can request it through ********. If you need this version, I'll give it to you without problem. My nickname is: SPYNET77

Thanx, m8!

I don't even know where my old AZbugHD is... I think I gave it to a friend to check it out, I must call him...

You can post the image on MediaFire, for instance - free and fast!

Cheers!
