Sky launches mobile recording facility

BSkyB has launched a remote recording facility via mobile phone for its Sky+ digital TV recorder service. The Sky+ Remote Record service allows subscribers to record favourite shows now from mobile phones, and soon via PCs.

"It's the first time this service has been available on three different platforms (mobile internet, SMS and the web) anywhere in the world and is yet another innovation from Sky," said the broadcaster.

Viewers with a GPRS or 3G mobile can download Sky's seven-day TV guide and select programmes to record on their Sky+ box. Alternatively, subscribers can send a short SMS text message containing details of the programme they want to record to a dedicated number.

Later this summer subscribers will be able to select Sky+ recordings via the web.

Brian Sullivan, Sky's director of customer products and services, said: "Remote Record is perfect for those situations when you hear about a TV show and want to record it there and then, or if you want to catch a particular programme and you're stuck at work, waiting for a delayed train or even on holiday.

"We're constantly innovating and adapting our products to give customers the best TV experience, this new service is a world first that adds to the choice, flexibility and control millions of Sky+ users already enjoy."

Meanwhile Sky is said to be planning to launch additional entertainment services for its Sky by broadband offering.
