After first announcing it last spring, AT&T and Palm, Inc. are now offering a free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for this telecom's version of the Treo 750. With this release, the smartphone is brought up to the latest version of Microsoft's operating system for mobile devices.

What's Going to Change? Possibly the most significant improvement in this upgrade is support for HSDPA, an enhancement to the Treo 750's 3G wireless networking that will speed up downloading data. Some of the other enhancements in Windows Mobile 6 Professional include the ability to display HTML-formatted email and an improved Calendar with Day-at-a-Glance bar. It also sports improved versions of the Mobile Office applications, bringing them closer to their desktop equivalents. In addition, Microsoft has fine tuned the look of the operating system. Other improvements include: Ability to set an out-of-office message from the Treo miniSD storage card encryption, password and PIN improvements, and remote data wipe Ability to search for email messages on an Exchange server Meeting request and scheduling conflict improvements. Available Now Palm's Windows Mobile 6 Professional upgrade for the Treo 750 is available as a free download at www.palm.com/750updateATT. There are also versions of this operating system upgrade available for Vodafone's version of this smartphone, as well as the unbranded, unlocked version.
