Myths and conspiracy vs security and hacking

In life there always many flavors to choose. For example for covid19 vaccine, you can choose to vaccinate or you can be one that believe in conspiracies and the you choose not to do it.

PC security is a MOST important thing. In America the government blame half the world for the many PC hacking cases. For us; Russia, North Korea and China are the usual suspects. Software companies create the so called “Updates” for protection. But Iphone, Android and Windows 10 are in another league, where they claim we as users can not decide for our-self how to handle our security. So our PC and Phones are Locked and they force the updates on us as they please. If you believe in this PLEASE continue following those rules.

In the other hand there people like me, that believe this is wrong. This system is broken. You pay $2000 for a PC and $1000 for a phone. And you are in fact NOT the Owner of the device! If you read the small letters you will find that this companies reserved all rights and at the end you are ONLY Licensed to use the device. They control all aspect of ownership. This result in may cases where stupidity is created. For an example; Imagine you are require to handle a Report to your Boss or to school the next day. And when you try to do it, Microsoft, Apple or your phone company decide to send you an FORCE Update. You then have to wait for it, running the risk to loose you most important work! For me this is unacceptable.

I am a Linux user and W10 & W11 do not like to share. Clearly if the do not allow any other 3rd party OS the W10 is more secure. So you have to decide if you want LINUX or accept W10 rules. For Official Linux distributions they have UEFI and many of them are allowed by W10. But fro some small distribution or your own build you need to DISABLE Secure Boot. See is one of those decision you have to make in life. ONLY you can decide what to do.

This is why I always ask people to use a secondary OLD unused PC for you to play with Linux. You been warned.

Now once you decided to enable NONE windows UEFI certifications or you decided to Disable Secure Boot, then you need to select a BootLoader. BootLoader will provide you with a Menu to select the OS to boot from ( Linux or Windows).

Option 1 grub4dos
Now for many year grub4dos was the standard. You can still find it at https://github.com/chenall/grub4dos

Now the developer is a chineese hacker, with make it a RED Flag by USA standards. But it is in used in the USB you currently have!!! Why is used? Because it is very easy to create new menus.

Option 2 Grub2
All mayor Linux distribution use Grub2. It can UEFI certifications. This is what W10/11 prefer. But it is not user friendly making it confusing.

Option 3 extlinux/syslinux
syslinux is today standard for USB bootable devices, mostly used for CDROM images on USB. For Linux we use “extlinux”. This can handle UEFI too. Menu are as easy to build.

1rst , I know my old threads are gone. And I do not want to start a hated windows thread again.

what's the difference between windows and Liunx§
Main distribution Linux OS like Ubuntu requires Updates, yes just like Linux. No different,

The critical Issue is Ownership. You pay $2000 USD for a PC and you do not own it. Microsoft decide when to reboot your PC to force an update.

Let me give you an example. A Hurricane came lost power and wifi for 6 month. Yes the Rock Age. Running on generator, My W10 started to complain not having Internet in the first moth. At the 3rd the W10 broke up. NO PC because no Internet. Ffor Microsoft was: Get a new update or you get no PC!!

Now the objective of this thread was to let you know and others that you need to make a Decision. Stick to W10 or Ubuntu stile PC and follow the rules. Or you get a Second unimportant PC and do what you please. No Rules to follow. But if you are smart, on second PC you do not do things like banking or purchasing on Amazon.

Hope you understand now my objective.

I get your point now
I will become a Linux user little by little because it is difficult to switch from Windows to Linux

In fact that is how I did it. I was a happy Windows7 user. And I use Linux in small devices. Routers that I reprogram to do other stuff. And Linux inside my Android phone. But I saw w8 behaving wrong. The in W10 cause me so many troubles after no power due to Hurricane, that was not acceptable. And I switch to Linux.
