Well lads, been out of the satellite game for a few years now. Been reading through the thread, some very helpful info.

I've read all 61 pages so far so hopefully the questions I'm asking aren't duplicates (apologies if I've missed something).

I know that the Viark Sat 4k and Viark Sat HD have been mentioned - what are the best alternatives to these? I don't mind importing from North Africa or Middle East if it works out cheaper - maybe a Viark clone/StarSat/Tiger etc?
Also, the ALI2661 chipset mentioned early in the thread - is this still an issue on any non-Viark boxes? I've seen 1.40 firmware for Viark ALI2661 boxes but just want to confirm before I go and order a box that may have it.
Lastly, is it possible to add a CCcam line to these boxes while also having the forever running? It's probably redundant but just wondering.

Thanks for all the great posts in this thread, great to see 28.2e back open!

The Ali2661 chipset now works fine with the SP1 setup.

You can add lines to them but as they open most of what's available across the arc ive not found much need to.

There are really no cheap options' manufacturer wise for UK the VX8 UHD opens DE on mars and is cheap but does not open UK.

Thanks Ferret, appreciate the help. I've seen sites in MENA that could get a receiver landed to Ireland for 110-120 EUR with duties included, just a case of knowing which ones will work. Is it safe to say that any receiver currently supporting forever is okay for SP1/SP2? Or is it tied to the firmware version that's running (saw in the beginnings of the thread that only boxes on v1.40 would support it, but unsure whether that's solely Viark or not). I've seen Starsat SR-600HD/Starsat T140 Pro/Starsat SR-8080HD at reasonable prices in MENA with 15 months forever included (no SP1/SP2/VIP), anyone know if they're compatible? I'm lucky in that I have a few friends out in the Middle East who could send em over to me as a "gift".

Sorry for the multiple questions, still trying to wrap my head completely around this. Feels like when I first started learning about e2 and CCcam way back when.

Viark 4k Latest firmware 1.14
Viark Sat 2.15

I have a Geant OTT 750 4K Allure with Forever Server, originally sourced from MENA, I think Algeria.
When I checked the SP1/SP2 and VIP options available to it, the check tool indicated it was OK for all of them.

I purchased the SP2 package (SPI + Apollo IPTV) and the VIP package and they all seem to be operating OK but I have not had the time to check 28.2E yet.
Certainly, 19.2E (DE) and the VIP bein sports channels are all working as they should.

It seems that to get the VIP package option installed on one of the Forever Server receivers, the reciever needs to have been distributed from outside the Euro Zone?
This would explain why the Geant is eligible for VIP and the Viarks are not, just guessing there however?

I will also go for Geant if it's the posibillity to have it at low price. From what I read and saw on other groups and forums, it was one of first to get updates and to work with new packages. But the thing is how long they will have sw support, Viark or Geant.

I have a Geant OTT 750, and I am surprised that it is still working after more than 4 years.(Hope I do not jinx it)
The quality of the output is very good, but they lack software support.
There is no forum(dedicated or not) where users can post their problems(Like GTMedia for example).
In 4 years, the only change in the software that is really valuable, is the Forever Server version that it supports.
Very often new versions of software introduce problems that weren't existent before, and in a very strange manner.
Like searching on multistream satellites(9e for example): in an older version of the software it works out of the box, in newer versions it doesn't.

Indeed, GT Media has a forum, but we wrote there and nobody read. Before Mars, the team was very responsive to users request, but now...not anymore. For that I can't say "buy V8UHD", till now we don't have Sly UK, and sw is also work in progress. It's stable, but blindscan it's a pain in the a*s, you can't sort channels in favorite list, you can't change the sat position, only with manual tuning in usals, and if you want to change orbital position, you must create a new sat with new position, we asked for nagra in emu, etc etc.

I've also own a Sat-Integral with Forever, but it's stopped at september, with 1.37, and I think it will die with this version. But, at least, with sat integral you can sort channels, you can modify sat positions without creating new sats, in short words, works fine.

I agree with this inference. I posted earlier in this thread alluding to the same thing.
Source the box in North Africa and have the FS pre-installed prior to shipping.
That should provide the VIP option.

Hi Albsky,
Does the Geant OTT 750 have a recording facility or allow you to record via the EPG and Timer?

They don't like shipping pre patched stb my friend , as I said earlier.

@modifi i use a samsat 6200 4k receiver, its a decent box its running forever 140 and sly uk de with sp 1 is fine...these are around 40 euro cheaper than a viark sat 4k, the problem is very few shops in tunisia will send to the uk....one supplier is really cheap...but you mail them bout sending to uk and you dont get a reply...think they are shooting themselves in the foot re- starsat/samsat/geant/mediastar boxes if you have a contact in tunisia/algeria then ask if they can get you a samsat 6200 4k you cant go wrong with one of these for sure.

Hi Albsky,

You can record in USB drive or external HDD (via USB).
Also, it is possible to set a timer for recording. Time shift, also available.
If you want an internal HDD you'd need Allure version.
Now, I have seen that there are new versions of these receivers: Geant OTT 750 Evo and Geant OTT 750 Evo Allure.
The main change that I have envisaged is the Android version updated to 9 (Mine has version 7).
HW seems the same.
