Re: l'avenir d'Eutelsat 5W

The swan fields for 5WA, its north / south substation control has been off since December. So its orbit will gradually tilt to leave room for 5WB, no impact on receptions for the general public, but it is starting to be visible on large diameter dishes (240 mini).

Despite the problem of deploying the 5WB south solar panel, it will be able to provide a certain number of services on a long-term basis (this does not therefore mean all), for the moment this partial migration is planned for the night of 20 to 21 January 2020 , will follow some adjustments (EIRP, reference plane, ...), in the long term foresee a polarization difference compared to 5WA of ~ 3.5 ° (in principle invisible on parabolas for the general public whose counter-polar is correctly adjusted) .

Eutelsat 5West B is alive,
A new plan will be required to support 5 west as Eutelsat 5West B cannot cover all transponders so a back up satellite may be needed here @ 5 west to work with the damaged 5 West B ?
Unless as now looks possible some Italian TV migrates to another satellite.

Eutelsat 5 West B Ku band satellite starting 20 to 21 January 2020

There are 3 Ku band beams for Eutelsat 5 West B transmissions are due to start from 5° west next week,

This will allow Eutelsat 5 West A to move from here to another place this will also be the end of C band transmissions from 5° west,

It has been established in this thread that the main transponders will be for Fransat & French Multi-Streams & they will probably be on the new Transalpine beam,

There is an Algerian spot beam that may be used there has been no Algerian TV from 5° west for a few years now & with the reduced capacity of 5 West B this may not be possible.

the algerians have their own satellite at 24,8* with similar beam so propably you are right 5W wont be needed

Do you know, what satellite dish size will be necessary for trans-alpine beam in north moravia-silesia? I think that 100 cm should be enough.

Until the new satellite starts @ 5 west next week it is just guess work a 100cm may be OK on the transalpine beam but if they use the European beam then a 100cm will be no problem in your location.

I know that European beam is no problem in my location, it's the same as Wide beam on old E5WA, but I think that french multistream will use Trans-alpine beam and European beam could be useful only for dish allign, if it will be activated. There is also a problem with solar array. Do you think that multistream muxes will be crypted?

The multistreams have been FTA on a much bigger footrpint on E5WA for several years now so I see no reason why this will change on E5WB with the much smaller footprint.

Fransat will oblige them legaly i think .. most are using multistream boxes specialy in north african .. defo things will change soon

Multistreams were FTA for several years, but there weren't many boxes on the market to receive this type of signal.

All of the pay channels here @ 5 west will remain encrypted but the majority of the revenue here is not from subscriptions it is from advertising so what is currently FTA will probably continue :thum:

Thats exactly what i was thinking chineese boxes simply flooded The market

Not only chinese boxes. Native support also came to linux boxes and some cheap boxes like Cryptobox 750/752. Possibility to buy a multistream box for $65 easily allowed to watch FTA channels that normally reuqired a card and this make loss for providers. If the muxes on Ukraine (4°West and 4,8°East) will be crypted, I don't see a problem to encrypt French muxes. But this is not problem for me, because I have a Fransat card.
