European version of Edison Mio 4K+ ships with OPENATV os but if you are in USA it's suggested you install the TNAP os but others on the forum state:

"That TNAP is OK but its designed for FTA, as soon as you try to go beyond FTA you get stuck as it will not work with oscam in its default install state."

Then I read that OpenATV is the best OS to have.

So is the advice to stick with OPENATV as it too is FTA and more?

For north America you would probably want to try OpenPli image first because it is a little easier to use for a beginner of enigma2 firmware. The oscam-emu can be installed from the downloaded plugins under softcams. You will need to provide the configs and softcam key file at etc/tuxbox/config/oscam-emu. Then install a key adder plugin ipk because that is not in the downloaded plugins menu. TNAP 5 is openPli based and does have oscam-emu in the downloaded plugins and the key adder plugin but you still need to provide the configs and key file at ect/tuxbox/config/oscam-emu.

Is it correct to say that the enigma2 firmware is the software needed for the hardware to talk with O/S. In this case the O/S is OpenPli. When I install OpenPli can I keep OpenATV in slot 1 and Openpli in slot 2 or is it better to remove and backup Openatv and put OpenPli in slot 1?
I read alot about oscam-emu but what does it actually decrypt. I mean why encryption types PowerVu, bliss, nagravision?

Yes the images like OpenATV,OpenVix,OpenPli and others is the O/S that makes the hardware usable. You can leave OpenATV in slot 1 and flash other images to another multiboot slot by flashing online or with the flash image menu. You will need the read the oscam patched wiki to learn how to use it and what it can decrypt. hxxps://github.com/oscam-emu/oscam-patched/wiki change xx to tt

USA:
TNAP: Os Mio series tuner drivers optimized for USA satellites. No native softcam support.
OpenViX: Performs much the same as TNAP. Has services listed in transponders to help choices of scanning encrypted transponders (TNAP also). Built in softcam capability.
OpenATV: Works great. Scans well. Easy remote control button mapping that emulates TV remotes. No softcam natively.

Proven, Stable, Documented previously.

TNAP 5 does have oscam-emu in the download plugins and it works fine version 798-r11718. The configs will install but will need the softcam key added by the user. I prefer my own configs so haven't tested the configs that are installed by installing oscam-emu from the download plugins menu. Key adder gets installed with the oscam-emu install in TNAP 5 and that works too.

Useful info re TNAP v5 and oscam, thank you.
Some of the previous versions of TNAP I tested did not have this option.
