DM8000: Production is shut down

DM8000 HD PVR

Production is shut down

The DM8000 HD PVR translated the claim into action to unite digital consumer electronics into one device. It is all the more regrettable, then, that Dream won't be able to carry on the production of this groundbreaking multimedia center.
This is because several electronic components are no longer available. Dream Multimedia won't develop a successor of the DM8000. Nevertheless, Dream looks ahead to the future. At this year's Anga Cable show Dream lifted the veil and let visitors take a brief look at the Goliath project.
This innovative software and hardware platform will outshine everything Dream has developed so far.

You cannot blame them if "This is because several electronic components are no longer available."
If you believe DMM then you have already lost. History repeats itself, their boxes are becoming obsolete after 2-3 years and everybody reads their lame excuses? I am pissed of since I bought the 7025, a box that never had any good software, then their constant bad manufacturing (look at the cheap components ready for early retirement) lack of innovation, lame support and violation of open source and GPL then their illegal software bombs, I decided that I will not buy any of their machines ever.

They will go down the drain like Goliath did against David.
The best that could happen for the industry. Good riddance. :158:

DMM is unable to get the chips, Ferrari DM8000 continue to be produced as they have the chips... so definitely the only way left is to get a Ferrari DM8000 clone.

Broadcom 400MHz CPUs not available any more. Some were still available some time ago, but DMM didn´t buy. This was maintained by a user on DMM board, I don´t know, if it´s true, but at least nobody from DMM denied.
With Goliath in mind, perhaps they didn´t want to buy old hardware? New OE2.0 functions will need more up to date hardware to work really fast (HBBTV/Webbrowser/DLNA, Bluray) - so better build faster machine. With dm8000hd all will work, but like with older computer all will work more slowly.
In case, Goliath may come soon - newly produced dm8000s in stock may stay unsold. So I think, for DMM it´s better to sell some DM7020HD until Goliath gets released.

Just had a look at new (expensive like dm8000) Reelbox3 - although it comes with new modern hardware, it has no HBBTV ("Users didn´t ask ... we may do, if enough users ask") .
Other machines of other companies use Opera for webbrowsing, if ever they have a webbrowser inside, at all. DMM doesn´t want to use thirdparty browser - better open source - but that needs faster hardware and optimized OE2.0.

Dm8000hd was released in December 2008 - so it was designed 2007/2008?
With this age of the box in mind we should all rather be happy to own a device that still supports OE2.0 features, that many other more modern boxes don´t even yet have implemented. Only latest boxes from 2012 with new hardware have these features - how many other "old" boxes from 2008 beside dm8000hd?
And how many boxes get software support for so long?

Just imagine, you buy a cellphone (e.g. Samsung Galaxy SIII) and show it to a friend in january next year ...
You´ll get a comment like : "Oh, it´s good - but an old model. It doesn´t have x and no y and ... ".
Compared to that a dm8000 is still not outdated and the quality of a dm8000hd never was crappy. (I possessed different receivers before - best quality I got from dreambox).

Not getting produced does not mean that there´s no support for dm8000hd any more. Dream always had good software/hardware support. I once busted one of my boxes when it was 15 months old. With box of different company this would have been a big fight. (Often you get asked to prove, that it wasn`t your own fault, that the box gut busted - nearly impossible.) Not so with DMM - they tried to repair three times - wasn´t possible - then I got a complete new mainboard.
Try the same with clone, or cheaper Enigma2 boxes ...
---

Problem is not dreambox (other 3,5 year old receivers are old, too - some even outdated) - problem is that progress runs faster and faster. New functions, features come more and more quickly.

I think you have said it all, a great box mine is four years old now and still very happy with it, but time and design moves on.

I still have my old 7000s and that is a good box to, just had it repaired after getting the parts from DM after all these years!

That's all fine and well if you have had box for 4 years or so but what about people who have only had box for 6 months for them it's harder to except that they have spent 860.00 on dm8000 and then cheaper 702ohd omes out cheaper with faster processer and then dm8000 and then production stops of dm8000hd

I think this is unexceptable and I ould like to collect and return upgrade

Dream multimedia is still supporting the 8000 and will do for quite some time like they did with the 7000, when the new box is released it will make all box’s out of date because it will do things that others can not do, with enigma3 or what ever it will use.

ok i tell you this its simples with in 20 years all our televisions will mostly be just one sheet of glass (yes thats i.

maybe not all but most people will upgrade as because they are cool i have tested them and its just basicaly a sheet a of glass as big as you want it o be the picture is progected from underneath via lasers they are allready here its just a matter of time befor they produce them in mass quantity as of the moment a 60 inch may set you back 10.000 pound and upwards and it would be special order.

after this we have holagrapic image its not myth but true it is going to hit sooner or later.

but it is going to happen hers the thing satellite recievers will also have to adapt mass change is upon us like hbbtv will be reality in 10 years you may be able to project image from your pc holigrapic with in 20 years i say for this but definately we will see a 4 k satellite signal which meens faster procesers so things will neeed to be upgraded etc...

but none of this applys right now so its simples dream multimedia should offer collect and return upgrade for dm8000hd simples ...

Collect and return idea is nice, of course, naveed68:), but I don´t know any company selling electronic consumer market devices on such a base. Devices all get oldfashioned too soon.

(It could be a good idea and perhaps protecting nature, too, when only those parts get renewed, which need update and the rest can be used until it busts.)

Be happy with dm8000, it gives you more than most other boxes do (Even 7020HD: Only 2 tuners, no disc writer, unicable only with 2 cables + splitter / but it has HDMI-CEC what 8000HD hasn´t got.)
It always causes bad feelings, when we buy a device and its successor gets available soon after.
Maybe this is one reason, too, why DMM decided not to produce/sell dm8000´s any more. Just imagine the uproar in sat community all over the world, if people buy a DM8000HD e.g. in january and Goliath gets available e.g. in february at a comparable price. Can you imagine, how much you and all other customers would curse DMM then?

I suppose Goliath won´t come earlier than sometime next year - would be surprised, if this year, already (well, let´s wait and see). Until then we all will have had lot of fun with our 8000 boxes.
I even ordered new discwriters for my dm8000´s (got delivered 5 mins ago) and I´ll attach them the next days. So I hope my box goes on living for some more time.

The 8000 can do so much already:thum:, I´m not disappointed with it at all. Goliath must be a big lot better than my 8000, before I would buy one.

Let´s be happy with the good things we possess, we don´t know what we may get in future.
I wish you always fun and many happy hours with your own DM8000HD, naveed68:thum:.

P.S.: Holographic beamer we may get one day, naveed68 - but that´s off topic here - this is "DM8000 Production shut down" thread. But perhaps a nice idea;), if you open new thread "Future Technology", where we can all discuss what will come, may come or we would like to come.
