Shout 'k' for Extended Talk Time

With its new 9@9k model, Philips has added a truly nifty feature to its Xenium series - a mobile that can last up to two months without recharging. With such amazing battery life, the consumer has virtually no fear of losing touch with his or her contacts.

Small and Capable

Given that the Philips Xenium 9@9k is an entry level mobile, the main draw for consumers is no doubt the long battery life, which has been a hallmark of most of Philips' mobile range. This handset however goes beyond the usual standards and provides up to an estimated 1440 hours of standby time and up to 17 hours when utilized non-stop. When we tested it out (of course not for the entire two months), the 9@9k exceeded our expectations with the non-stop talk time at least.

Other than the 60 days standby time, the basics of a modern mobile, like sending text messages and taking images were naturally not unduly affected in the quest for battery life. However, there have been some compromises, like sub-par image quality due to having only a VGA camera installed. But this camera should be sufficient for less demanding consumers who might not be too fussy about the quality. In addition, there is the option of storing all your personal data, audio files and documents on a microSD card.

Style is the Word

The device is typical of most recent Philips mobiles in the market. It is not exactly a head turner but nonetheless it is capable of performing on the triband GSM network. Being 14 millimeters thick, with a TFT display and Bluetooth technology, it is a handy though simple handset for basic connectivity. In addition, the metallic body of the mobile invokes an understated sense of style. It may not catch the eye of the mobile fashionistas but at the same time, it won't earn pitying looks from your shallow acquaintances.

A Nifty Device

Although the Philips Xenium 9@9k is probably not for power users, it is suited for those who use their mobile phones primarily for chatting, especially when it has such a strong battery life. It is in short a rather simple and niche product for consumers who value the importance of long talk duration and eschew the advanced features found on modern mobiles.
