Sat internet is very expesive to setup(equipment costs, subscription etc) however satellite internet grabbing is something where by the use if your current equipment and a dvb card or usb box. you can intercept internet traffic for free.

But you must expect large volumes of crap, typically i download from sat or grab as it is commonly known about 35GB of data per 24hrs, I am pointed at 7 East. Of that download, i probably get two films some software and games and the rest is porn.

If you dont mind sorting through it all its good fun, I have and will continue to do it as you do get some good stuff.

Need any more help just pm me

Yes you would need to subscribe to a service operator, which is expensive. if you want d/l only then you only need a dvb card/box.

to have a two way sat system is expensive for the equipment and will not be as quick as most landline connections...

I believe the subscription is expensive also. I have looked into this as i live in a rural area with no options other than an 80kb dongle.

Hope this answers your problem

DONT DO SAT - DO 3.5G

Hi,

Having been a subscriber (NOW TWICE) of satellite internet services, I can say with conviction, ONLY DO IT AS A LAST RESORT!!!

There are a number of issue with satellite internet, that makes it VERY expensive, and useless for most things other than browsing the web or getting emails.

Latency of around 600-1900ms is a key issue, as is the way they use 'sliding windows' for use - e.g. if you are allowed 6GB of data per month, and you download nothing for the majority of the month, then download your whole 6GB on the last day of the month, you can end up in restricted mode for the following month - effectively meaning you can end up paying for the same data twice!!!!

I have recently dumped Tooway for the very reasons above, and have moved to ORANGE 3.5G data, and get 5GB/Month and 7.2Mb down / 2Mb up speed - And it's excellent!

The one issue you may have is finding if you have a decent 3.5G signal in your area (most places have - even though you might not see it immediately).

I ended up buying cheap PAYG dongles from different provides, to find which gave me the best signal, then (because I couldn't get a good signal indoors) I bought a GlobeSurferIII & outdoor antenna, which is working very well.

This cost me around 350€, but still cheaper than a good sat setup.

Depending on your country, (I'm in Spain), operators are offering some REALLY good deals on 3.5G connections (Three in the UK is superb, and has great coverage).

If you can't get a 3G signal (I'd be surprised), you can buy my now useless wok & router (Tooway system) for a very reasonable price ;-)

Hope that helps

Dave
