Lega Serie A and its strategic media rights advisor Infront Sports & Media, have today announced the tender details for the international audio-visual rights relating to all events of the Serie A, following the Assembly’s unanimous approval on 26 September. The tender was published on the Lega Serie A website today, asking bidders to submit offers by 12.00pm on 15 October 2014.

Briefly, the exclusive international package (for the seasons 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18) includes the following audio-visual rights related to the Serie A exploitable in territories outside of Italy:

  • Right to live broadcast all matches of the Serie A championship;
  • Right to live broadcast weekend rounds of Serie B events, which coincide with breaks of the Serie A;
  • Right to broadcast the Highlight Magazine of the Serie A and Serie B;
  • Right to produce and transmit programs relating to the pre and post match and the break in between including footage highlights and interviews.
The main novelty of the tender is that it focuses more on the actual broadcast in order to ensure the appropriate level of visibility and appreciation of the Serie A. The successful bidder will have to provide more precise and timely information to Lega Serie A (both before and after the broadcast). In certain areas (United States/ Canada, South America, Indonesia and Middle East & North Africa), Lega Serie A has the right to directly verify the actual distribution of the Serie A in order to ensure that it is effectively broadcast, with scheduling and modalities that uphold its value.

The possible transmission of content via live web broadcast is also foreseen, while the Lega Serie A reserves the right to distribute the footage on a non-exclusive basis for deferred broadcast, for example through the potential implementation of its own YouTube channel.

The commercialisation of all audio-visual rights related to all competitions organised by Lega Serie A will be completed by additional tenders covering exclusive packages concerning the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italia and the Primavera (youth) competitions, and non-exclusive rights packages for the Italian territory which will be launched at a later stage.
