UKTV back on Virgin TV

August 11, 2018 09.41 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Virgin Media and UKTV have signed an agreement that will see all the UKTV channels return to the cablenet.

As part of the agreement Dave HD and Gold HD channels will be offered to Virgin TV Mix customers for the first time.

Virgin gets its wish to expand the amount of UKTV content that is made available to its subscribers.

David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media said: “Reaching this agreement reaffirms our longstanding partnership with UKTV and is fantastic news for our customers.

“We are sorry for what we know has been a frustrating time for our customers, but are pleased that our TV bundles are now even bigger. Our unwavering commitment to investing in incredible programming remains.”

The channels had been absent since talks broke down on July 21st.

Simon Michaelides, Chief Commercial Officer, UKTV, added: “Viewers are at the heart of UKTV and we want to thank them for all of their support. We know this has created real disruption for some of our viewers and we’re so sorry for this, but we are thrilled to be back, broadcasting our channels and shows to customers of Virgin Media once more.”

There will be separate discussions with BBC Studios – the merged BBC Worldwide – about access to shows from the BBC archive. One of Virgin TV’s demands was for UKTV to offer classic shows that were already available over rival services including Amazon and Netflix.
