The end of feed hunting as we know it ?

The end of feed hunting as we know it

SNG trucks & mobile units have been gearing up for the next generation of feeds via Ka band this will make it very difficult for feed hunters especially from KA Sat @ 9 east due to the small footprint downlinks below,

Eutelsat’s NewsSpotter service via the KASAT satellite puts a new
face on newsgathering in Europe

Paris, 21 March 2012 - Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) today officially launched
its innovative newsgathering service called ‘NewsSpotter’. The service expands the range of
professional services provided through Eutelsat’s high-performance KA-SAT satellite and is
provided by its Skylogic affiliate. Using a new generation of lightweight equipment, NewsSpotter
broadens opportunities for newsgathering by offering broadcasters and service providers the
ability to transmit High Definition and/or Standard Definition live video from the field in a fast and
highly cost efficient manner. The service is also ideal for fast transmission of film rushes and
proxy file transfer from the field.
Compact enough to be carried in a back-pack for Fly-Away use and small enough to be fitted
onto a small car for rooftop mounting, NewsSpotter can instantly connect mobile news crews to
studios for transmission of live recordings, images and data. Providing native IP connectivity,
NewsSpotter is perfectly integrated for the workflows of modern newsgathering operations and is
available across KA-SAT’s footprint that covers Europe, North Africa and large parts of the Middle
East.
Offering a fast link from scene to screen, the NewsSpotter satellite dish and terminal can be set
up in two minutes, including deployment, auto pointing, and connection. Bandwidth can be
reserved online by news crews, using a self-booking application or pre-booked for planned use
and guaranteed reservations. Users simply log-on to the Skylogic OSS portal, enter their user
terminal number, location, time slots and bit rate required on return and forward links.
NewsSpotter uses professional-grade KA-SAT terminals for video contribution from crews in the
field to a broadcaster’s master control room. Using standard IP routing, the service is capable of
transmitting at speeds of up to 20Mbps via KA-SAT and its dedicated ground network fibre
infrastructure.
NewsSpotter user terminals have been developed by multiple manufacturers in three versions:
Fly-Away, Vehicular Compact and Vehicular Rugged. Flyaway terminals require manual pointing
and come in the form of backpack or flight case configuration, weighing in the range of 5 to 10 kg,
with dish sizes in the range of 60 to 75cm. The Vehicle Compact terminal has motorised and
autopoint capability and is available with dish sizes from 75 to 90cm. Rugged Vehicle mounted
terminals are available with dish sizes from 75 to 120 cm.

Cristiano Benzi Director of Pre-Sales and Customer Care at Eutelsat, said: “Satellites are an
unbeatable platform for covering breaking news and transmitting live sports and cultural events
back to studios. NewsSpotter complements these daily operations with a fast, light and costeffective
service for broadcasters and news crews. Broadcasters that set the highest standards of
quality, including the BBC, RTL, Rai and Sky, have already tested the system and performed live
transmissions in Europe, illustrating NewsSpotter’s immediate interest to the news industry.”
NewsSpotter is delivered by Eutelsat’s KA-SAT High Throughput Satellite, which entered
commercial service in May 2011. With its total capacity of more than 70 Gbps, KA-SAT ushers in
a new era of competitively-priced, satellite-delivered services for broadcasters, businesses and
consumers. The satellite forms the cornerstone of a new satellite infrastructure, which includes
eight main satellite gateways across Europe connected to the Internet by a fibre backbone ring.
So if you have ever wondered where the feeds are when we cannot find them now you know

Dakar Rally of South America 2013

Dakar Rally of Peru Argentina & Chile 2013
Dakar Rally of Peru Argentina & Chile 2013
Pisco, the January 5th, 2013
It’s hot in Pisco. Yet the results of the first special were a burst of freshness, with Ignacio Flores and his quad seizing Peru’s maiden win. Meanwhile, Chile took control of the motorcycle category as Chaleco won the stage and two other Chileans got into the Top 4.
The consequences of the first stage will be forgotten in a few days, but what they experienced in Lima's Chorrillos neighbourhood this morning is something that will remain indelible in the minds of all the participants in the 2013 Dakar. Perched above the beautiful Agua Dulce beach and the jet set Club de Regatas, the start podium presented the drivers and riders to the crowd. And what a crowd it was. It was great in terms of quality, as the President of the Republic came to the front row to cheer on the "Forza Inca" team one last time. And, above all, in terms of quantity, as the Limeños flocked to the hill slopes, the area around the podium and even the road the vehicles took on their way from the parc fermé.
Mr Ollanta Humala's exhortations didn't fall on deaf ears and, a few hours later, the first stage winner of this Dakar turned out to be... a Peruvian. The quads had the honour of kicking off today's short special. Ignacio Flores, who was forced to quit last year's Dakar just before the race reached his country, got his own back in the 13 km opener. The hero of the day was 11″ faster than Emirati Sebastian Husseini, who lived up to the expectations in his Dakar debut by outperforming Marcos Patronelli.
No surprises in the motorcycle race, which was also favourable to the host countries of the 2013 edition. Francisco López didn't even wait for the rally to reach his country this time round. Chaleco, who rides a KTM for the Chilean Tamarugal team this year, grabbed his eighth Dakar stage win. He already won last year's opener in Mar del Plata before eventually withdrawing during the eighth stage. Today's runner-up Frans Verhoeven also found himself a new ride for this year: a Yamaha. An encouraging start for the Dutchman, but it was the Chilean armada that stole the limelight with, paradoxically, a great burst of freshness: Pablo Quintanilla and Patricio Cabrera, both younger than 25, finished third and fourth of today's special, just ahead of defending champion Cyril Despres!

Pesco to Pesco

The second stage of the 2013 Dakar is a loop around Pisco. After an opener which was more of a warm-up, the racers are about to get down to business with a 327 km trek on sand. An 85 km link section and a 242 km special entirely on the dunes await, but it's not here that the race will be at its most difficult. We'll have to wait until Monday for that... Jaw-dropping landscapes are there for the crews to admire if they have a second to spare as they fight to avoid the traps of the sea of sand. There were no surprises during the first day, apart from American Robby Gordon's stop during the special, in the Car category. Marcos Patronelli, the runner-up to his brother in 2012, made the Top 3 in the Quad category. Only Gerard de Rooy and his team banged their first on the table to show their ambition in the Truck category. The favourites are still very much in the game, as Stéphane Peterhansel and Cyril Despres started the rally calmly, almost cautiously. Their ample experience has taught them that a flash of brilliance here and there isn't enough to win the Dakar: it takes grit, consistency and an ability to manage sporting risks.
