The ‘psychic’ octopus Paul predicted Spain to be the FIFA World Cup 2010 champion. The two-year-old celebrity octopus Paul picked Spain to beat the Netherlands on Sunday in a live television broadcast watched across Europe.
Earlier Paul accurately picked the outcome of all six of Germany’s World Cup matches. Today the captive sea creature took only three minutes and made his mind to place its mussels in the box of Spain mark in his tank.
Spokeswoman for Sea Life, Tanja Munzig, in Oberhausen said, “That was fast — it looks like a clear-cut victory for Spain.” This time the octopus was really fast. Earlier for some of the matches Paul took about 70 minutes to decide.
Immediately after the prediction reaction in Spain was swift. Marca.com, the daily website in Spain, ran a headline: “The octopus Paul makes us champions.”
This is the first time the octopus was asked to predict the outcome of a game in which Germany was not involved.
