CHELSEA were left reeling after Carlo Ancelotti embarrassingly snubbed the chance to become Blues boss.

The AC Milan manager could have pocketed a three-year deal worth £18million — but yesterday he told his Italian bosses: “I am 150 per cent staying with Milan.”

His shock decision leaves Blues owner Roman Abramovich with little option but to turn to original favourites Roberto Mancini and Frank Rijkaard.

Portugal manager Felipe Scolari could also be a contender once this month’s European Championships are over.

The Chelsea bombshell began with a lunchtime meeting in Paris on Monday, when Abramovich personally spelt out the deal to Ancelotti.

But just 24 hours later Ancelotti emerged from showdown talks with Milan chief Adriano Galliano to confirm he was staying.

He said: “I am staying with Milan 150 per cent, there is no reason to doubt that.

“When you hear these stories that top clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid or Chelsea are looking for you, it’s very pleasing.”

A close friend of the Champions League-winning coach said it was not an issue of money.

The source told SunSport: “Carlo has been associated with AC Milan for more than 20 years now.

“He has spent seven very happy and successful years as manager and this is an issue of love not money.”

Chelsea sought to limit the damage last night by claiming they had not agreed any deal with Ancelotti.

SunSport revealed that the first meeting between Ancelotti and Abramovich took place in Geneva last week.

A second rendezvous is then believed to have taken place on Abramovich’s yacht last weekend.

A board meeting will take place in London today to discuss where Chelsea go from here.
