£16,000 costs for man who illegally streamed Sky Sports

October 26, 2017 09.11 Europe/London By Julian Clover

A man who illegally streamed Sky Sports over the internet has been ordered to pay legal costs of over £16,000.

On Monday, a judgement was obtained in the High Court against Yusuf Mohammed from Bristol.

Mohammed was also told to disclose details about the money he made and people he colluded with. He will also have to pay undisclosed damages to Sky.

Kieron Sharp, CEO of intellectual property protection organisation FACT said “This is the latest action taken in the ongoing crackdown on illegal digital piracy. It should now be crystal clear to anyone thinking of pirating or watching a pirated stream that this is not a grey area and that it is illegal.

It follows a similar case last week in which a person admitted sharing the Joshua vs Klitschko fight on Facebook. The stream was viewed by around 600,000 people.

They agreed to pay substantial legal costs and provide a written apology to Sky.
