Servus TV to show Sky Bundesliga for free in Austria

February 5, 2018 22.44 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Austrian commercial channel Servus TV will show six live games of the first-division German football league Bundesliga on its free-to-air channel in Austria this season.

The deal is based on a partnership between the broadcaster owned by energy drink manufacturer Red Bull and Bundesliga pay-TV rights holder Sky Deutschland.

Kick-off is on February 10, 2018 with the match between FC Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04, followed by RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund (March 3), RB Leipzig vs FC Bayern Munich (March 18) and Borussia Dortmund vs FC Bayern Munich (on match day 28). The two further games are still to be determined.

“The collaboration regarding the German Bundesliga is another intelligent interaction between pay-TV and free-TV enabling us to present one of our top products to an even broader audience,” said Christine Scheil, Managing Director of Sky Österreich.

For the Bundesliga transmissions, Servus TV will take over the Sky signal on its Austrian channel broadcasting encrypted on Astra (19.2° East) as well as on Austrian cable, IPTV, DTT and OTT platforms. The agreement also covers the livestream on Servus TV’s website with geo-blocking restricting reception to Austrian internet users.
