In this hit '80s hybrid of the horror movie and the teen flick, a single mom and her two sons become involved with a pack of vampires when they move into an offbeat Northern California town. Lucy (Dianne Wiest) and her sons, Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim), move to Santa Carla to live with Lucy's lovable but curmudgeonly father (Barnard Hughes). Soon Michael falls in with some actual vampires after becoming enamored of one of their victims: Star (Jami Gertz), a gypsy-like vixen who is trying to hold on to her humanity even though vampire leader David (Kiefer Sutherland) wants to play Peter Pan to her Wendy. When Michael visits the cavernous hangout of David and his cronies and unwittingly drinks from a wine bottle full of vampire blood, he becomes an unwilling member of the bloodsucker biker gang. Soon, it's up to Sam and the Frog brothers to destroy David and his ilk without killing Michael and Star.

THE PERFECT STORM

Based on the novel by Sebastian Junger, which was in turn loosely based upon true story of the Andrea Gail fishing vessel, The Perfect Storm details the events preceding the ship’s sinking in 1991. George Clooney depicts the boat’s captain, William ‘Billy’ Tyne, a divorced father of two disappointed by his crew’s lackluster performance during the tail end of the fishing season. Despite the risks of a soon approaching storm, Billy and his crew reluctantly decide to embark upon one last expedition in an attempt to recuperate their losses. Since the men rely upon their fishing income for their yearly expenses, the potential danger involved in the journey seems justified. The endeavor was fruitful for the most part, and the men offset the season’s earlier losses. Their happiness would soon turn bitter, however, when Andrea Gail’s freezer begins malfunctioning; without it the crew’s haul would quickly perish. To prevent that from happening Captain Tyne made no haste in returning to shore, well aware that he would be traveling into the eye of the storm. Nonetheless, with his years of experience he believed he could navigate through the rough tides. It soon becomes evident that the Captain is in over his head, however. When a fallen antenna disconnects the vessel from outside communication, and a rescue copter crashes while refueling, the men are left to fend for themselves. The decisions they must make from this point forward are, quite literally, the difference between life and death. Regardless of the outcome, The Perfect Storm packs enough suspense to keep audiences glued to their seats. The film’s soundtrack features the sounds of renowned artists such as John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, and many more. Both a critical and commercial success, the picture received two Oscar nominations and grossed more than $328 million in sales worldwide.

Hot Fuzz

When the heat is on call ‘the Fuzz’ Top London cop, PC Nicholas Angel is good. Too good. And to stop the rest of his team looking bad, he is reassigned to the quiet town of Sandford. He is paired with Danny Butterman, who endlessly questions him on the action lifestyle. Everything seems quiet for Angel, until two actors are found decapitated. It is called an accident, but Angel isn't going to accept that, especially when more and more people turn up dead. Angel and Danny clash with everyone, whilst trying to uncover the truth behind the mystery of the apparent "accidents" in the increasingly strange rural town. Director Wright combines gory set-pieces with traditional action-movie staples: mustachioed detectives in sunglasses, corny one-liners, rapid machine-gun fire, and blood-spattered fight scenes all feature heavily. Shaun of the Dead's Simon Pegg and Nick Frost star in this $22 million-grossing spoof of cop movies. This movie is rated R for violent content including some graphic images, and language.

ENEMY AT THE GATES

Vassili Zaitsev's (Jude Law) grew up as a young Russian shepherd, trained by his grandfather (Mikhail Matveev) to snipe wolves from a great distance. With practice Zaitsev became a master marksman, and soon advanced beyond his teacher in skill. Even as the military's most coveted shooter however, Vassili was still haunted by his first, unsuccessful shot while under his grandfather's tutelage. This experience, coupled with a natural sense of humbleness, causes Zaitsev to continuously underestimate himself. During the infamous Battle of Stalingrad from 1942 through 1943, Russian and German forces fought relentlessly for months; millions were killed throughout what would later become one of history's most gruesome clashes. The devastating losses were decreasing Russian morale, and the government sought a method to reverse this phenomenon. The Battle of Stalingrad was not a simple skirmish; if Nazi forces successfully defeated their opponents, Germany stood a good chance of conquering the massive country. Losing was an unacceptable option for any patriotic Soviet. Herein enters Zaitsev, a sniper with impeccable precision who earns the awe of his superiors. Commisar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes) uses Vassili's accomplishments as inspiration for a series of stories in the army's newspaper, transforming the young man into a national hero. Vassili's newfound status, while flattering, bothers the modest sniper who constantly questions his true abilities. This is especially true when Hitler's forces reveal their sniper, an equally skilled shooter named Erwin König (Ed Harris) whose sole mission is to assassinate Zaitsev. Both men play a ruthless game of cat and mouse involving heavy doses of psychological warfare, and unfortunately an innocent bystander. König is not the only man Vassili is battling. Although a less violent competition, Danilov and Zaitsev are both attempting to court the beautiful Tania Chernova (Rachel Weisz), a local militia member whose grievances with Hitler transcend mere territorial wars. Enemy at the Gates was a commercial success, earning nearly $97 million at the box office, fully recuperating its $68 million budget. The picture is based upon a chapter in William Craig's 1973 novel by the same name, which in turn was inspired by a nonfictional rivalry between Zaitsev and his Soviet counterpart, Major Erwin König. Rating: Rated R for strong graphic war violence and some sexuality.

Antonio Banderas portrays El Mariachi, a gun-carrying guitarist determined to avenge his slain girlfriend's death while simultaneously eliminating Mexico's most vicious drug cartel. He is in pursuit of Bucho (Joaquim de Almeida), the sleazy drug distributor responsible for her murder. With the help of a man named Buscemi (who is none other than Steve Buscemi), El Mariachi tracks Bucho down to a small town that sustains itself through drug smuggling. Each business in the village serves as a front for Bucho's operation, even its humble bookstore and its beautiful owner, Carolina (Salma Hayek). El Mariachi enters town with bravado, greeting its local watering hole with gunshots. Blood splatters in all directions as Bucho's lowly thugs are barraged with bullets. Meanwhile one of Bucho's senior men, Tavo (Tito Larriva) monitors the shootout from the tavern's surveillance camera and begins pursuit. Before Tavo is able to attack, Carolina pulls El Mariachi into her shop. Carolina is an unwilling participant in the cartel's operations, bullied into compliance by Bucho's goons. While inside Carolina bandages the vigilante's wounds, and later hides him from Bucho himself. A day later the gangsters discover the storeowner's true allegiance however, and sets her shop ablaze with El Mariachi inside. The duo narrowly escapes, though Carolina loses more than just books in the fire. When El Mariachi finally meets his nemesis he refrains from killing him, but why? The Matrix

Premiered in US theatres in 1999, "The Matrix" is a film that combines the elements of science fiction, thriller, action and adventure. The film is written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski. It was the first of the "The Matrix" film series. The movie, the runtime of which is 136 minutes, stars Keanu Reeves as Thomas A. Anderson, Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith, Joe Pantoliano as Cypher, Julian Arahanga as Apoc, Anthony Ray Parker as Dozer, Marcus Chong as Tank, Matt Doran as Mouse, Gloria Foster as the Oracle, and Belinda McClory as Switch. The film describes a future in which reality perceived by humans is actually the Matrix, a simulated reality created by sentient machines in order to pacify and subdue the human population while their bodies' heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source. What if virtual reality wasn't just for fun, but was being used to imprison you? That's the dilemma that faces mild-mannered computer jockey Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) in "The Matrix". It's the year 1999, and Anderson works in a cubicle, manning a computer and doing a little hacking on the side. It's through this latter activity that Thomas makes the acquaintance of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who has some interesting news for Mr. Anderson — none of what's going on around him is real. The year is actually closer to 2199, and it seems Thomas, like most people, is a victim of The Matrix, a massive artificial intelligence system that has tapped into people's minds and created the illusion of a real world, while using their brains and bodies for energy. This system tosses people away like spent batteries when they're through. Morpheus, however, is convinced Neo is "The One" who can crack open The Matrix and bring his people to both physical and psychological freedom. "The Matrix" received Oscar Awards for film editing, sound effects editing, visual effects, and sound. It also won Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Film and Best Direction, BAFTA awards for Best Sound and Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects, in addition to nominations in the cinematography, production design and editing categories. The film was rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language. With a production budget of US$ 63 millions, the film's gross box office revenues amounted to US$ 460 millions.

Blindness

A doctor's wife becomes the only person with the ability to see in a town where everyone is struck with a mysterious case of sudden blindness. She feigns illness in order to take care of her husband as her surrounding community breaks down into chaos and disorder. Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles brings Jose Saramago's much-loved novel Blindness to the screen with this ambitious adaptation. Like Saramago's book, Meirelles chooses to forfeit names for his characters, instead spinning the film around the plight of a doctor and his wife. A blindness epidemic strikes an unnamed city, forcing the government to put many citizens in quarantine, including the husband’s doctor. Unable to conceive of life without him, Julianne Moore's character feigns blindness and joins him in the grimy high-security institution where visually impaired citizens are kept. Their attempt to survive in the rotting facility, which quickly falls into disrepair and chaos, forms the backbone of Meirelles's movie. There's a twist in the tale as the main characters struggle to lead the blind to a place where they can come to terms with their condition, and Meirelles makes the journey deeply unsettling. Meirelles's movie, which essentially functions as an allegory for societal collapse, is an alarming and often distressing look at the dark side of human nature. The director often saturates the film with milky white color, reflecting the bright light the blind see when the condition besets them. This glare often makes it difficult to look at the screen, inflicting Meirelles's audience with a feeling of momentary blindness. An atmosphere of tangible dread manifests itself as Blindness progresses, and the ugly scenes of rape and brawling, largely caused by the meager food rationing among the blind, makes for emotional viewing. This movie is rated R for violence including sexual assaults, language and sexuality/nudity.

ROCKY BALBOA

Very few franchises have experienced the longevity of Rocky, a series of films spanning four decades. While its sequels have garnered less than stellar responses over the years, most moviegoers and critics alike praise the boxing saga's 1976 debut. When news spread that a nearly 60 year old Sylvester Stallone would create a final sequel in 2006, crowds expected the worst. Fortunately the last chapter, Rocky Balboa exceeded everyone's expectations. Stallone's character attempts to fight his psychological demons rather than mere boxing matches. The recent death of his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire) has transformed the former champ into a gloomy, purposeless man. His strained relationship with son Robert (Milo Ventimiglia) only intensifies Balboa's depression. Owning and managing a small, but modestly successful restaurant gives the boxer some solace. Patrons are eager to hear the Italian Stallion retell stories from his glory days, or have their picture taken beside him. In parallel, single mother Marie (Geraldine Hughes) and her fatherless son, Stephenson (James Francis Kelly III) provide companionship and a much needed sense of purpose. Despite his age, and regardless of practicality, Rocky yearns for the life he once lived. He not only misses Adrian, but also the ring and its associated struggles. When a computer simulated boxing match between Balboa and the current heavyweight champ, Mason 'The Line' Dixon (Antonio Tarver) names Stallone the victor, sports fans around the world are intrigued. Could a 58-year old man possibly defeat an opponent half his age? The newfound attention Rocky receives boosts his morale; soon, he begins preparing to compete in local fights with the assistance of longtime trainer Duke Evers (Tony Burton). News of Balboa's inconceivable return reaches Dixon's management, whose client is regularly dismissed as a Heavyweight Champion by chance, rather than by genuine skill. The champ's promoters hypothesize that a victorious bout with a legend could help solidify Dixon's legitimacy in the boxing world and propose the idea to Rocky. Reluctant at first, Balboa eventually accepts Dixon's challenge. Winning is not necessarily Rocky's primary goal however: a quest for closure and a sense of fulfillment is more important. Rocky Balboa was both a critical and commercial success. Filmed under the constraints of a $24 million budget, it earned $155 million at the end of its theatrical run and an additional $35 million from DVD sells. The picture was nominated for an MTV Movie Award. Soundtrack features Bill Conti's unforgettable Gonna Fly Now and the Three 6 Mafia. Rating: Rated PG for boxing violence and some explicit language.

Mike Conklin is a New York detective under investigation for corruption. When yakuza hit man Sato kills two American mobsters in New York, he's extradited to Osaka to face trial, with Conklin and Charlie Vincent as his escorts. While relaxing with Mas at a karaoke bar, the cops also get information on the world of the yakuza from Joyce Kinglsey, a high-class bargirl. But when Vincent is murdered, Mas and Conklin realize that success will come only through a blending of investigative and cultural styles. K-19: The Widowmaker

K19: The Widowmaker is fact-based fiction film about the disaster that befell the Russian submarine of the same name during the cold war, and the hardships its crew had to persevere through. The year is 1961 and the Soviet Union is ready to launch its first nuclear submarine, K-19, at the height of the Cold War but Commander of the ship Captain Mikhail Polenin is certain that the flagship is not ready for deployment, a belief he makes known, which results in him being demoted to executive officer of the ship. But it turns out Polenin's concerns are well founded as parts are not yet installed, equipment is missing and the ship's doctor is killed in an auto mishap. Nevertheless, political pressure forces the new commander Vostrikov to sail his crew into the North Atlantic anyway, for a missile fire test that serves as a warning to the U.S. The test is a success, but a disastrous leak in the K-19's reactor cooling system soon threatens to create enough heat to detonate the craft's nuclear payload -- which would certainly be mistaken as an attack in a worldwide atomic exchange and spark the beginning of World War III. With no other option, Vostrikov orders his men to repair the damage in ten-minute shifts, irradiating them hopelessly. The conflict between the seemingly bureaucratic Communist Vostrikov and the more humane Polenin escalates, until a surprising twist reveals where both officers' loyalties truly lie. The film was nominated for two Political Film Society Awards and is rated PG-13 for disturbing images.

MIAMI VICE

Miami Vice follows the violent adventures of Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. With Miami at the center of a global drug trade, their job of stopping illegal trafficking is hard and dangerous work, yet they are also rewarded with gorgeous girls and local celebrity. But their access to wealth, drugs, and power is tempting, and both men continually struggle with personal demons to stay on the right side of the law. Tubbs is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born Intel analyst Trudy, as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Crockett is charismatic and flirtatious until - while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group - he gets romantically entangled with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The best undercover identity is oneself with the volume turned up and restraint unplugged. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one - especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves. This movie is rated R for strong violence, language and some sexual content.

Splice

Genetic engineers Clive Nicoli and Elsa Kast hope to achieve fame by successfully splicing together the DNA of different animals to create new hybrid animals for medical use. They have just created the second in a pair of identical hybrids; the new male specimen, Fred, is intended as a mate for the original specimen, a female called Ginger. After their success, Clive and Elsa want to use human DNA to create a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine, but are forbidden by the pharmaceutical company that funds their research, N.E.R.D. (Nucleic Exchange Research and Development), instead mandating that their department be re-organized to focus on finding and extracting certain proteins from the creatures they have already created. Secretly, Clive and Elsa conduct their own experiments, blending human DNA with that of other animals. Although they initially decide not to bring the hybrid to full term, Elsa pushes the issue and persuades Clive to go along with it, in continued secrecy. The hybrid appears deformed and aggressive when it stings Elsa several times after "birth" with a retractable stinger in its tail. Clive and Elsa believe they have killed the hybrid only to find out that within the body was the true hybrid. After anesthetizing and examining the creature, they discover that she is aging at an accelerated rate. Clive is still adamant that the creature should be killed, but Elsa convinces him that it is too late, and points out that, since the hybrid is slowly dying anyway, they should take advantage of this unique opportunity to observe its complete life cycle. Elsa eventually names the creature Dren (“nerd” backwards) because Elsa refuses to let Clive refer to her as a "specimen". Elsa immediately forms a motherly bond with Dren, as Dren grows and learns at an accelerated rate. As their lab becomes more and more crowded, and after Dren attacks Clive's brother, they move Dren to Elsa's late mother's farm. Due to Dren's demands on Clive and Elsa's time, they begin to neglect their work, failing to read the logs kept by the other lab technicians on the progress of their original animal hybrids, Fred and Ginger. At the highly publicized "unveiling" of the two specimens, instead of mating, as expected, Fred and Ginger violently kill each other, creating a public relations disaster for the NERD company. It is subsequently discovered that Ginger, the female hybrid, has spontaneously changed to a male, but Elsa and Clive had failed to notice because they have been so wrapped up in caring for Dren. As Dren grows into adolescence, she becomes moody and petulant. She becomes bored being locked up in the barn, and wants to go outside, but Elsa and Clive refuse, as letting Dren outside could expose her to other people. Eventually, Dren lashes out, killing a pet cat out of spite and then assaulting Elsa. Elsa reacts by reverting back to the role of scientist. She ties Dren up, refuses to speak to her (referring to her only as "the specimen" again), and removing the stinger from her tail. Soon after, Dren jumps naked on Clive, who initially refuses her sexual overtures. As Clive looks at Dren, however, he suddenly realizes that the human DNA used to make her was not from a "Jane Doe," as Elsa had told him, but from Elsa herself. Clive and Dren end up having sex, but are interrupted by Elsa. The two finally decide to terminate the experiment, and presumably end Dren's life. But what happens when the line between right and wrong has become blurred. This movie is rated R for disturbing elements including strong sexuality, nudity, sci-fi violence and language.

RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION

Survivors of the Raccoon City catastrophe travel across the Nevada desert, hoping to make it to Alaska. Alice joins the caravan and their fight against the evil Umbrella Corp. Resident Evil: Extinction is based on the wildly popular video game series and picks up where the last film left off. Alice, now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera and L.J., along with new survivors Claire, K-Mart and Nurse Betty to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead. It's three years after the action of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and the world has turned to desert in this third film based on the now-classic video game Resident Evil. Survivors of the zombie-making T-virus are few and far between, but Alice treks her way across the desolate landscape, fending off zombies and fighting the Umbrella Corporation. Not only is the company responsible for the virus and the state of the world, but their experiments also turned Alice into a super-human fighting machine. She reunites with Carlos and L.J. when she joins with a caravan of people led by Claire Redfield. Together, the band battles the undead as they make their way to the promised safety of Alaska. This movie is rated R for strong horror violence throughout and some nudity.

RESERVATION ROAD

Reservation Road is the story of two men whose lives are torn apart by a tragic accident. Ethan Learner and his wife Emma are consumed with grief after their son Josh is struck by a hit and run driver. The man behind the wheel was Dwight Arno, a divorcee who was racing to get his own son back in time in accordance with a custody agreement. A lawyer himself, Dwight is all too familiar with the consequences of his actions. Unsure of what to do, he panics, then conceals his car in his garage. Lucky for him, the police can't find any leads, and the case quickly turns cold. Time passes, and Emma wants her family to heal and get on with their lives, but Ethan has become consumed with finding his son's killer. In a bizarre coincidence, he shows up at Dwight's office seeking legal advice about how to catch and prosecute the perpetrator. The guilt is eating away at Dwight, and he makes a plan to turn himself in, but not before he has a proper goodbye with his own son. When an image suddenly jars Ethan's memory of the accident, he begins to piece things together, causing him to quickly seek his retaliation, which results in a gripping and emotional stand-off. Joaquin Phoenix and Jennifer Connelly are excellent as the grieving parents, both offering a painfully realistic portrait of grief. Mark Ruffalo is equally impressive as the tormented and conflicted Dwight. While the film works nicely as both thriller and family drama, it at times has an emotional intensity that can be almost difficult to watch. Yet, all tear-jerking elements aside, director Terry George has crafted a smart and complex tale of loss, and the long, difficult road to healing. This movie Rated R for language and some disturbing images.

Twilight: New Moon

Teenager Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has found her first true love, a 109-year-old vampire: Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). While there is quite an age difference between the two, Edward is resistant to aging and, assuming he is never killed, will forever appear 17. He is accompanied by his vampire family, the Cullens: father Carlisle (Peter Facinelli) and mother Esme (Elizabeth Reaser); brothers Emmett (Kellan Lutz) and Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), in addition to sister Alice (Ashley Greene). Edward and Bella's relationship is stellar, until the Cullens decide to throw a surprise birthday party for her. When Bella opens a package and gets a bad paper cut, it drips blood and overwhelms Jasper – who then leaps in her direction. Fortunately she was not physically harmed. Unfortunately, however, Edward became fearful that even if Jasper could control his vampiric urges that he could not, and would eventually transform the girl he adored into a soulless creature like himself. After having this realization Edward took a walk with Bella into the woods, explained his feelings, and insisted that the relationship should end. She was absolutely devastated, and sank into a deep, yearlong depression. In the meantime the Cullens left the small Washington town for another location. Eventually Bella met a Native American boy named Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). With his help she was able to overcome depression, and begin living a normal life. Something strange happened though. One night Ashley and Bella encountered a biker gang that Edward had once fought with; Ashley was hesitant to go near them, but Bella began having visions of Edward, who warned her to stay away from the men. In order to keep his vision alive, Bella asked one of the bikers for a ride home, hoping she could somehow get closer to her former love. As time passed she realized that dangerous situations summoned Edward's presence, and so she tried crazy stunts such as jumping off of cliffs into water to get in contact with him. To Bella's chagrin, however, her number one admirer Jacob usually rescued her. While Jacob hoped to be her knight in shining armor, he has a secret similar to Edward's: he and his family are a pack of werewolves. To make things more complicated a longstanding rivalry exists between the Cullens and the Blacks. If Bella wants to reunite with Jacob she has one choice: to become a vampire herself. Yet Edward refuses to grant her this wish, claiming that she does not know the misery of being soulless. On the other hand, he is terrified that if he does not transform her, she will eventually kill herself – either intentionally or inadvertently by constantly summoning his spirit. Even if Edward would agree to Bella's proposition, it would end a truce between the Blacks and Cullens, namely due to a condition that prohibited the Cullens from turning anyone into a vampire. Ultimately these two men must make a decision that is both fair, and does not hurt the one woman they both love. New Moon was an incredible success, breaking numerous box office records and spawning a sequel, Eclipse. Across the globe the picture earned a whopping $701 million, easily recuperating its comparatively small $50 million budget and outselling its predecessor, Twilight by far. DVD and blu-ray releases were highly profitable as well; in North America alone the DVD grossed $152 million in sales. The film was no slouch on the award circuit either. It won a Kid's Choice Award, 2 MTV Movie Awards, and 4 Teen Choice Awards. New Moon's soundtrack features artists such as Death Cab for Cutie, Lupe Fiasco, OK Go, and many more.

Four step-brothers come together to find out how and why the woman who raised them was killed in this hard-edged urban drama from director John Singleton. Short-tempered Bobby, struggling musician Jack, streetwise Angel and hard-working Jeremiah are four guys who do not appear to have much in common, in terms of either race or temperament. However, these men have one very important bond — all four were adopted and raised by the same woman, and they all love her as a mother, and respect one another as brothers. When their mother is killed during a robbery at a grocery store, the four brothers come together for the funeral, but when they do not get straight answers about what happened to her, they begin looking into the crime themselves. The deeper they dig into the case, the more the brothers begin to suspect that the shooting was not an accident, and that powerful and unexpected forces were involved. "Four Brothers" marked one of the first starring roles for Andre Benjamin, better known as Andre 3000 of the top selling hip-hop group OutKast. The movie won Breakthrough Artist Award in 2006, and Image Award for Outstanding Directing in a Feature Film in 2006. The film was also nominated for Black Movie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Directing in 2006, and MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance in 2006. The production budget of the movie amounted to US$ 40.000.000. This film is rated R for strong violence, pervasive language and some sexual content.

Saw III

The third installment of the horror franchise series Saw might have an overriding message to humanity other than horrific ways of torturing people with morbid creativity. It is a display of the faulty characteristics of people’s need to take revenge by ruining the present for events in the past. Picking up where Saw II left off, we see Jigsaw’s apprentice Amanda doing some dirty work and revealing that it was she who killed Adam in a mercy killing. Jigsaw, who is bedridden with cancer, orders Amanda to capture a doctor by the name of Lynn Denlon to enter into a Jigsaw game of keeping his heart beating or else her new shotgun shelled necklace will explode. Meanwhile, Jeff Reinheardt is forced into another game of having to relinquish his obsessions of revenge by being put in an abandoned meatpacking plant where he must play a game of saving three people tied to his son’s death; Danica Scott, an innocent bystander on the scene who did nothing to help, Judge Halden who only sentenced the killer to six months in prison, and Jeff’s son’s killer, Timothy. As Jeff races against Jigsaw’s ticking heart and Lynn does all that she can to make sure it keeps on going, can the two beat the bigger plans Amanda and Jigsaw have installed for them? This movie is rated R for strong grisly violence and gore, sequences of terror and torture, nudity and language.

American Gangster

Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) was born in North Carolina and raised in poverty. Throughout his youth Lucas partook in criminal activities and eventually relocated to New York City, where he connected with Harlem's notorious gangster Bumpy Johnson (Clarence Williams III). Johnson took a liking to the young man and became Frank's mentor, imparting street wisdom upon him. After Bumpy's death his monopoly of the city's heroin supply ended and every noteworthy dealer battled for the former kingpin's throne, including Frank. Seizing Harlem's drug market was not an easy task though. All pushers obtained their product from the same source, usually the Italian mafia, who inflated prices to compensate for their services. Dealers maximized their earnings by lacing heroin with other substances. While this practice increased the drug's overall volume, it decreased its potency. In order to gain customers one must offer the best product for the least expensive price. To eliminate any middlemen Lucas traveled to Vietnam where his cousin, Nate (Roger Guenveur Smith) owned a popular bar catering to the area's underbelly. Nate connected Frank with a local heroin manufacturer who, for a small fee, agreed to supply Lucas with pure, uncut heroin. Frank then concocted an ingenious smuggling scheme made possible by the Vietnam War in which American personnel in both countries were paid off to hide, and then unload kilos of heroin in the coffins of returning dead soldiers. The plan worked. In no time word spread amongst Harlemites that Lucas' dope, dubbed Blue Magic, was the purest, least expensive on the street. Yet nothing, not even success comes without strings attached. Frank's primary competitor, Nicky Barnes (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) is determined to usurp the city's new ruler by any means, while a straight-laced Jersey detective named Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) aspires to put the peddler behind bars. American Gangster cost a hefty $100 million to make, but by the end of its theatrical run garnered more than $266 million, rendering the film a blockbuster. The picture's official soundtrack features 60s and 70s artists such as Bobby Womack, Sam & Dave, and The Staple Singers. The film was nominated for 2 Oscars. Rated R for violence, drug use, explicit language, nudity, and sexuality.

Fans of the popular Resident Evil series of video games will be thoroughly entertained by its identically titled celluloid adaptation, the first of four highly successful films based upon the franchise. One mile beneath the earth lies a secretive complex owned by the Umbrella corporation, a manufacture of various household products used by 90% of all Americans. In actuality, however, it is a front for the US military's genetic engineering program, where tomorrow's most vicious biological weapons are conceptualized. At the center of this operation is Red Queen (Michaela Dicker), an artificially intelligent supercomputer reminiscent of Kubrick's HAL 9000. Red Queen has full control of the complex and relentlessly monitors its security. When an unidentified individual drops a dangerous, zombifying mutagen inside the facility, Red Queen immediately seals the contaminated area. The computer also takes action on the surface. In a mansion connected to the laboratory Alice (Milla Jovovich), an Umbrella employee, wakes up amnesic after Red Queen fills the home with noxious gas. Upon regaining consciousness, police commando James 'One' Shade (Colin Salmon) debriefs Alice regarding the security breach. By his order she, along with other commandos, will be sent to infiltrate the premises and then investigate the accident. While doing so the team must confront dozens of infected Umbrella employees and mutated animals, but not before attempting to outsmart Red Queen's rogue artificial intelligence. Inevitably the virus will infect some commandos, and quarantining the area then becomes increasing difficult. This necessitates that Alice and the others locate the disease's antidote, one that has mysteriously disappeared from the Umbrella facility. Time is of the essence. Loyal players of Resident Evil showed their support for the film in droves, garnering it $102 million in ticket sales worldwide, easily recuperating its $33 million budget. Three additional films followed the 2002 release, all of them earning more than their predecessors. For example the latest offering, 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife, drew a whopping $273 million from audiences throughout the globe. The picture's soundtrack features tracks by Nine Inch Nails, Apollo 440, and Slipknot.

Black Rain

A dirty New York cop learns the value of honor from a Japanese cop who in turn learns about the benefits of not-so-subtle American assertiveness. Mike Conklin is a New York detective under investigation for corruption. When yakuza hit man Sato kills two American mobsters in New York, he's extradited to Osaka to face trial, with Conklin and Charlie Vincent as his escorts. Mistakenly turning over their prisoner to yakuza disguised as police, Conklin and Vincent realize, after running down some blind alleys, that they have no chance of finding Sato in the unfamiliar city and enlist the services of Japanese desk cop Masahiro "Mas" Masumoto. While relaxing with Mas at a karaoke bar, the cops also get information on the world of the yakuza from Joyce Kinglsey, a high-class bargirl. As they continue the search for Sato, the scrupulous, methodical, and civilized style of Japanese police work rubs the improvisational, rule-breaking Americans the wrong way. But when Vincent is murdered, Mas and Conklin realize that success will come only through a blending of investigative and cultural styles. The phrase "black rain," used in both films, refers to the deadly fallout caused by the detonation of an atomic weapon.

Sam's partner gets killed in the break, forcing Sam to go it alone in search of the loot, which is buried on the property of a farm inhabited by Clydie Anderson, the widowed mother of two kids named Mike "Mookie" Anderson and Bree Anderson. Attempting to sneak into Clydie's house and "borrow" some salt for a campfire-broiled steak, Sam catches sight of Clydie taking a shower. Sam is spotted by Mookie. After saving Clydie, Mookie, and Bree from a trio of intruding thugs, Sam discovers that Clydie is holding out from selling her place to property developer Franklin Hale, who fears that he will be put out of business if he doesn't get Clydie's land so he can develop on it. Sam decides to hang around, sleeping first in Clydie's barn and then in her bed, while repairing her late husband's Triumph motorcycle. And Hale hires an intimidation expert named Dunston, to force Clydie into selling her land. Secretly on Hale's payroll is corrupt sheriff Lonnie Cole, a sometime lover of Clydie. A jealous Lonnie discovers Sam's true identity and threatens to expose him if he doesn't leave. Not wanting to place Clydie in additional danger for helping a fugitive, Sam decides to leave, only to find that Hale has already blown the whistle on him in an attempt to get him out of the way. After evading police chasing him in cars, land rovers, helicopters, and on motorcycles and horseback, Sam returns to save Clydie from Dunston and Hale, who are planning to burn down her house.

Jerry Maguire

Tom Cruise portrays Jerry Maguire, a sports agent working for the fictional Sports Management International, an agency that oversees more than 70 different pro-athletes' careers. He has worked his way to the top through shrewd negotiations and cunningness, oftentimes at the expense of his clients. Maguire is constantly on the go, bouncing between airports and hotels like a Ping-Pong ball. He experiences an epiphany while in his hotel room one night, inspired by a severe nervous breakdown. Jerry's conscience was in conflict with his profession; more specifically, he could no longer accept the exploitation and disregard commonplace amongst sports agents. This vision prompts him to pen a staff memo entitled, 'The Things We Think and Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business.' In it he outlines changes the industry must make to better accommodate its clients. One of those suggestions, and perhaps the one least appreciated by Jerry's superiors, insisted that agencies manage much fewer clients to provide each with more individual attention. Naturally, a decision like this would initially mean sacrificing profit for integrity. While Maguire's colleagues are thrilled by the memo, the suits above him are not. Within only a few days he is fired; he loses all of his profitable clients except one, but gains a loyal supporter. Divorcee Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger), an accountant at SMI decides to join Jerry in his new venture and risks her financial stability in doing so. What begins as a relationship between Jerry and Dorothy develops into something much more; Maguire even forms a bond with Boyd's young son, Ray (Jonathan Lipnicki). Jerry focuses his time on managing Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), a promising football player whose career is currently in a slump. Tidwell genuinely believes in his agent's vision, though their partnership suffers when Maguire begins courting Frank 'Cush' Cushman (Jerry O'Connell), a superstar client whose signing could bolster Jerry's industry reputation tenfold. While doing so, however, he slowly forgets why he became an independent manager in the first place. Jerry Maguire was both a critical and commercial success, earning an Oscar and a Golden Globe. The film grossed an impressive $273 million internationally, recuperating its $50 million budget with ease. Its soundtrack features Paul McCartney, Nirvana, AC/DC, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and many more. Rating: Rated R for explicit language and sexuality.

In Brooklyn, amid drug deals, violence, casual racism, poverty, housing projects, and corrupt cops, we follow three officers. Detective Clarence "Tango" Butler is an undercover cop working the drug beat. His life in shambles, Eddie is barely hanging on, swilling whiskey in the morning to get out of bed. His only friend is a prostitute he frequents. Eddie's first rookie assignment is a former Marine, who becomes disgusted with Eddie's lack of professionalism and cynical outlook, and asks to be reassigned – only to be killed on his next assignment. Eddie's second rookie assignment accidentally fires his gun near a teenager during a petty theft investigation causing him to go deaf, leaving the NYPD facing a public relations nightmare. During the investigation, Eddie is remorseful for what happened, but refuses to play along with his superiors' attempts to imply that the teenager was a drug dealer. Then there is detective Salvatore "Sal" Procida is a corrupt cop who will do anything, including murder, to get more money. Sal’s wife is pregnant with twins. His house is too small for the four children he already has, and it also has woodmold, which is jeopardizing his wife's health and the twins'.

Along Came Polly

Ben Stiller resurrects his role as a fumbling, yet likeable geek from There's Something About Mary for Along Came Polly, where he depicts risk analyst Reuben Feffer. After careful assessment he has decided to tie the knot with Lisa Kramer (Debra Messing). Friends, family, and even a sophisticated computer program all agree that she is a good match for Reuben. During their honeymoon Lisa schedules scuba lessons and invites her husband to join. He calculates the risks involved and determines that diving is far too dangerous, and opts to go on a scenic joyride instead. When Reuben returns Lisa is frolicking in bed with her French instructor. The marriage promptly ends, though Feffer does not lose faith in the art of risk analysis. Best friend Sandy Lyle (Philip Seymour Hoffman) attempts to alleviate his friend's depression, and invites him to the grand opening of an art gallery. At the event Stiller's character encounters Polly Prince (Jennifer Aniston), the divorcee's seventh grade sweetheart who is gleefully serving drinks to attendees. Unlike Reuben, Prince is an extreme extrovert who relies upon her gut instincts rather than statistical probabilities. They are a seemingly incompatible pair who have not met in years, yet still enjoy each other's company. Despite numerous mishaps, including an incident where Reuben floods Polly's bathroom and fails to disclose a severe case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, they continue seeing one another. Their relationship continues to flourish, but when Polly discovers that Reuben calculated their long-term compatibility with computer software, she dumps him. In time Feffer realizes why his actions angered Polly, who is leaving town in a matter of days and has no interest in reconciling. Can Reuben convince her to forgive him? Along Came Polly earned $171 million by the end of its theatrical run, easily recuperating its $42 million budget. BROOKLYN'S FINEST

Three unconnected Brooklyn cops wind up at the same deadly location after enduring vastly different career paths. In Brooklyn, amid drug deals, violence, casual racism, poverty, housing projects, and corrupt cops, we follow three officers. Detective Clarence "Tango" Butler is an undercover cop working the drug beat. Losing himself in his role as a drug dealer, he is tired of the kind of attention that a black man in a black car attracts. Having been promised a promotion and a desk job for years, he is finally offered a way out but it means betraying a close friend Caz, a known criminal recently released from federal prison. Federal Agent Smith instructs Tango to set up the drug deal that will assure Caz's arrest and return to federal prison. Meanwhile, officer Eddie Dugan is a week from retirement after twenty-two years of less than exemplary service to the force when he is assigned to oversee rookies in the tough neighborhoods. Desperate to move, Sal has arranged to purchase a larger home through a woman who owes him a favor. The down payment is due the following Tuesday, and Sal is still short. Sal appears to be a highly skilled and accomplished narcotics detective, but he has begun to try and pocket money from police raids. All three cops navigate through the streets of Brooklyn but can it all end well for any of the three? This movie is rated R for bloody violence throughout, strong sexuality, nudity, drug content and pervasive language.

The Mothman Prophecies

John Klein is a hot-shot Washington, D.C., reporter whose life suddenly takes a different turn after he and his wife, Mary, (Debra Messing) are involved in a car accident. Although she suffers a non-fatal head injury, Mary's CAT scans show that she has a brain tumor diagnosed as glioblastoma. Shortly after her death, John discovers an assortment of cryptic drawings that she had made of a strange creature. Two years later, while driving to Richmond, Virginia, John becomes lost and inexplicably finds himself almost five hours off-course, arriving in the small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He soon becomes entangled in the personal stories of some of the residents, and in a chain of mysterious events, whereby local townspeople report strange supernatural encounters, along with weird lights and phone calls. With the help of the town sheriff, John begins to investigate the encounters and determines that the common link is an apparently supernatural creature known as the Mothman, whose appearances seem to foretell disastrous events. Things take a decidedly personal and frightening turn when he realizes the eerie connections between his wife’s drawings, eyewitness accounts of the Mothman, and phone calls from an other-worldly, seemingly malevolent entity named Indrid Cold. The Mothman becomes a personal obsession for Klein. He meets a Mothman expert, Alexander Leek, who convinces him that there may be a tragedy in store for the small town. With a production budget of US$ 42 million, the film was a huge box office failure, as its gross worldwide revenues amounted only to US$ 13 million. PULP FICTION

You Won't Know The Facts Until You've Seen the Fiction! Pulp Fiction revisits the seedier side of Los Angeles following director Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 Reservoir Dogs with this funny, violent, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the less "classic" side of filmmaking. The film interweaves three tales, told in a circular, fractured manner, which only fully connect by the time the final credits roll and features deftly woven plotlines, creating a mythic underworld of drug dealers, molls, affable hitmen, restaurant-robbing lovers, and a boxer out to scam the mob on his last professional bout. The first story focuses on Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, two hit men on duty for "the big boss," Marsellus Wallace, whose gorgeous wife, Mia, takes a liking to Vincent. Jules and Vincent head to a Los Angeles apartment to retrieve a briefcase that was involved in a failed deal for their boss. They also have to kill Brett, the one who was supposed to have set up the deal, and his cohorts. The briefcase is a classic MacGuffin, whose contents are never revealed except indirectly as a glowing, gold light. Jules shoots Brett's cohort and then, after a long and bizarre conversation led by the scripture-spouting Jules, Vincent and Jules execute Brett in a hail of gunfire. They spare their informant, Marvin, who happened to be there with the gang. In the second, a down-and-out pugilist, who is ordered to take a fall, decides that there's more money in doing the opposite. Pumpkin and Honey Bunny discuss robbing restaurants instead of liquor stores, their normal target, due to lack of awareness in restaurants. They decide to rob the one they are currently in and pull out their guns. Tarantino wears his cinematic influences proudly, bringing them to life in the ironically hip, self-referential 1990s. The result is a work that changed the face of independent cinema forever, making it a legitimate player in the Hollywood mainstream. The all-star cast steps into their roles with obvious glee, and Tarantino once again uses his soundtrack to up the "cool" ante yet another notch, making for a motion picture event that has worked its way into our national vernacular. The movie won several awards for its screenplay and was also nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture.

Roy and Jessie have just finished working with children overseas as part of a church project. Before flying back to the States, they decide to travel from Beijing to Moscow on the Trans-Siberian Express train, where they meet two fellow travelers, the handsome Carlos and young Abby. The couples bond, but gradually Jessie becomes worried that her new friends are involved in drug trafficking. At that point, the web has been spun, and when the intimidating Russian detective, Grinko, arrives, Roy and Jessie become innocent targets in a dangerous chase. This movie remains a well-executed portrait of a complicated relationship between two real people. Mortimer is her usual fantastic self, and it's fun to watch Harrelson play an average, upbeat American guy. Throw the always riveting Kingsley into the mix and you have a motion picture that is above average in every way. By the time the film reaches its payoff, viewers will have felt as if they, too, took a ride on the Trans-Siberian Express. This movie is rated R for some violence, including torture and language.

Comedic tale of company workers who hate their jobs and decide to rebel against their greedy boss. Peter Gibbons is a typical middle manager living a mundane life amid a gray maze of cubicles. Everything in his life reeks of mediocrity, from the mid-size car he drives to the chain restaurant, Chotchky's, where he eats lunch every day. Even his apartment, a cookie-cutter duplex with walls so thin that he can chat with his next-door neighbour through the plaster, is totally lacking in personality. The company where he works is peppered with ambitionless drones who blindly comply with the condescending requests made of them by their Porsche-driving CEO. Then one day, Gibbons snaps. As a team of experts is brought in to enact large-scale layoffs, Gibbons simply stops trying and adopts an attitude of total disinterest. That is, he's only interested in ****** the blond waitress at the local restaurant, and putting in place a devilish scheme for some corporate payback. This movie scares up some A-list laughs while also making an excellent parody of corporate culture. Released just as the dot-com boom began to go bust, with massive trends in corporate downsizing on the horizon, it could not have been better timed. Thus, while viewers will delight in the absurdity of the ultimate office loser Milton, they will also identify with some frighteningly realistic aspects of the film.

"The Mothman Prophecies" won Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing in a Feature - Music - Feature Film (Mark Jan Wlodarkiewicz) in 2003. This film is rated PG-13 for terror, some sexuality and language.

ANGEL EYES

Not once, but twice. The events of the movie follows a Chicago police officer Sharon Pogue, who, while pursuing a suspect one night, nearly becomes the victim of a fatal ambush until a mysterious stranger, Catch intervenes, disarms the assassin and saves Sharon's life. Is it a stroke of luck? Is it a twist of fate? Or just a concerned citizen who happened to pass by at the right time and wasn't afraid to get involved? Maybe, But Sharon and Catch have met once before. They find in each other the means to overcome the emotional obstacles holding them back from experiencing the wonders of the world around them. As the two fall in love, they discover the truth about each other and are forced to deal with the secrets from their past. The Informers

The Informers is based upon the identically titled novel penned by Bret Easton Ellis, whose books and their subsequent film adaptations frequently examine the shallowness of high society. His best-known works are perhaps Less Than Zero and American Psycho, two stories involving affluent characters consumed by their hedonistic lifestyles. The protagonists in the aforementioned titles yearn for a meaningful existence, but cannot forbear their carnal desires long enough to find a true purpose. A painfully slow case of self-destruction generally ensues. Rather than focus on a single character or a group of related characters and their common vices, The Informers follows seven separate narratives that are unique, but glued together by the decadence of society in general, regardless of class or wealth. In this scenario Los Angeles is the picture's backdrop, where Ellis returns to 1983 -- a year before a young Patrick Bateman graduated from Harvard and four years before Julian Wells would overdose on crack. AIDS is still considered a strictly gay disease, and the carefree sexual behavior of the 60s and 70s has not waned. Androgyny has reached its climax, while materialism continues its ascent. Despite rabid self-indulgence amongst the movie's characters no one is actually happy, but more akin to a drug addict attempting to recapture their initial high. Take Laura Sloan (Kim Basinger) for example, a 'happily' married mother who frolics with a male prostitute when her husband, William (Billy Bob Thornton) is absent. He is not innocent either though, and enjoys romping with his coworker, anchorwoman Cheryl Laine (Winona Ryder). Laine is perhaps one of the few not guilty of deceiving a significant other. Still she cannot simply enjoy gratuitous sex with William, namely because she is not attracted to his handsomeness or sexual prowess, but his power and position as the studio head. Rocker Bryan Metro (Mel Raido) is a textbook example of carnal excess, a man with unlimited access to drugs, money, and groupies. He remains intoxicated 24 hours a day, and wakes up beside a new (sometimes underage) girl each night. Metro lives an alpha male's fantasy, though overindulgence has rendered him virtually comatose, barely capable of recognizing his surroundings. Then there is William and Laura's son, Graham (Jon Foster). Christie (Amber Heard), his girlfriend is a nymphomaniac who spends more time naked than clothed. Graham accepts her promiscuity but becomes insecure when his best friend, Martin (Austin Nichols) develops an emotional attachment to Christie. Meanwhile Martin is sleeping with Graham's mother, tying each character's debauchery into a single loop. The Informers features music from classic 80s synth bands like Wang Chung, A Flock of Seagulls, Gary Numan, and Simple Minds. Rating: Rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, drug use, pervasive language, and some disturbing images.

CASINO ROYALE

Trading in the Cold War era for a new, post-9-11 landscape, the tale unfolds in locations that span the globe, including the Bahamas, Venice, and the Czech Republic. Casino Royale opens in Madagascar, where Bond pursues a guerilla bomb-maker in one of the most breathtaking chase scenes ever--and it all takes place on foot. Botching that assignment, Bond goes to Montenegro to square off against terrorist baddie Le Chiffre, an international loan shark who gambles with the money of his equally dangerous clients. Beautiful British Treasury representative Vesper Lynd supplies Bond's own funds, appearing on his arm in Montenegro, while M keeps a close watch on the action from headquarters. The extravagant poker game forms the center of the action, with Jeffrey Wright putting in an intense appearance at the table; interrupting the game are assassination attempts, poisoning, and other dramatic events that keep the adrenaline pumping. The flirtation that unfolds between Bond and Vesper Lynd is only in keeping with the spy's M.O. as a ladies' man. What differs here, however, is what sets this Bond apart from the rest: the romance is taken seriously, and it exposes a vulnerability in Bond that he's never shown before. This, however, only makes him the tougher, as Craig's Bond is darker, less campy, more brooding and mysterious, than his past incarnations ever were. This movie is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violent action, a scene of torture, sexual content and nudity.

Surfer, Dude

Steve Addington, an A-list surfer who comes home to find Malibu has changed. Gone are the times when surfers lived just to catch a wave; now it's all about sponsorships, virtual reality, and money, but all Steve wants to do is surf. Steve is an herb-toking long-boarder with a keen sense of balance and a mellow outlook on life. Upon returning to his hometown of Malibu to spend the summer with old friends, Steve begins to sense that the good vibes he remembers as a boy have been hopelessly corrupted by the powers that be. When the earthen surfer is faced with the prospect of expanding into virtual-reality video games and reality television or risk being rendered irrelevant, he opts to keep riding the majestic Southern California waves rather than participate in this new digital reality. Fate seems to intercede, however, when the ocean simply ceases to produce any suitable waves. His finances dried up, his sponsored expense accounts suddenly canceled, and his friends flocking off to bluer pastures, the surfer without a wave suddenly realizes that he has but two choices in life. He can either sit tight and try to keep his sanity until the waves come rolling in again, or finally give in to the Man and his intoxicating world of artificial amusements.

Perhaps with a little wisdom from his trusted manager, his aging mentor, his guardian angel, and his newfound muse, Addington can somehow manage to maintain his mellow just long enough to put it all into perspective and get back to the basics. This movie is rated R for pervasive drug use, language and nudity.

THE DA VINCI CODE

Harvard professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is attending a speaking engagement in Paris about symbology and female goddesses throughout history. While he is doing so, the keeper of the Louvre Museum is murdered in cold blood by a monk named Silas (Paul Bettany). Before the curator dies however, he manages to write a complex code and series of clues with his own blood on his naked body. Langdon is determined to solve this mystery, realizing that it is of great historical importance. Unfortunately fellow cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) informs Langdon that French police intend to frame him for the murder, and so both flee from authorities while piecing together various clues. The primary detective trailing the couple, Bezu Fache (Jean Reno) must ensure that the curator’s message, involving a 2000-year-old secret, is not revealed to the masses. Neveu and Langdon’s journey eventually leads them to Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen), a man obsessed with finding the true location of the Holy Grail. With Teabing’s help, the duo discovers part of the code’s message: that early church authorities purposely withheld certain feminine aspects of Christianity. Additionally, they discover that the Virgin Mary was not Jesus’ mother, but his wife and that their female offspring is alive and well in modern times. Transferring the complexities of author Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code to celluloid was no easy task, though acclaimed director Ron Howard has done a tremendous job. The picture was a major success at box offices, garnering an outstanding $758 million during its run in theaters, breaking numerous records. It was nominated for both a Golden Globe and Grammy Award. Though the movie raised controversy among some groups, it should be noted that the book’s author has stated many times that The Da Vinci Code is a fictional work that plays on years of classical conspiracy theories purely for amusement’s sake. Rated PG-13 for disturbing images, violence, some nudity, thematic material, brief drug references, and sexual content.

Lord of war

Lord of War is a powerful film about one man demonstrating how to get rich selling warring nations the tools of their demise. Yuri Orlov is an opportunistic businessman who stumbled into an arms dealer's gold mine with the end of the Cold War and the lax border security due to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Huge caches of Soviet weapons became available at bargain prices, and even for free if one was not above stealing, and as literally billions of dollars' worth of Soviet military technology disappeared, it began finding its way into the hands of weapons dealers eager to sell it to the highest bidder. Orlov was one such dealer. He found plenty of buyers for guns and military gear in unstable warring Third World nations, who paid cash and did not appreciate too many questions. Most of these wars were staged to distract populations from the diamond and gem trades and exploit other raw materials of the developing nations. Orlov's exploits in the arms business quickly made him a very rich man, but have also led to some unwanted attention from Jack Valentine, an Interpol agent who is convinced Orlov is not playing by the rules. "Lord of War" won the Special Recognition Award of the US National Board of Review for excellence in filmmaking in 2005. With a production budget of US$ 42 million, the film's gross worldwide box office revenues amounted to US$ 72 million. This film is rated R for strong violence, drug use, language and sexuality.

It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the warmer south, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless cannibalistic bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a rusting shopping cart of scavenged food--and each other. The two are fighting to survive after an unspecified apocalyptic event and all they can hope for is possible food, safety, and the company of fellow survivors. Along their journey, with scarce shelter and resources available, they encounter many horrors and hardships, and must endure the constant fear of roaming cannibals and other desperate gangs. Frailty

Actor Bill Paxton's directorial debut, Frality, has been hailed for its originality by author Stephen King and director Sam Raimi. The film opens on a stormy night when an intense man walks into FBI headquarters in Dallas and tells Agent Wesley Doyle that he knows who the "God's Hand" serial killer is. He tells a compelling tale, shown in flashback, of how he and his brother lived with their kind widower father, a mechanic. One night, their father woke them to tell them he'd had a vision, and that God had commanded the family to slay demons in human form. The older brother, Fenton, doesn't believe a word of it, and assumes that their father has gone mad. The younger brother, Adam, is more easily swayed. Soon the father is bringing people home, supposedly chosen by God for them to slay. When Fenton tries to resist his father's plan, he finds his own life in danger. Eschewing graphic gore in favor of more subtle chills, Paxton's suspenseful and creepy film harkens back to the wholesome surface and underlying depravity. This movie is rated R for violence and some language.

THE ROAD

A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind and water. After the Oscar-winning success of the adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel No Country For Old Men, another of the author's works arrives on screen. This movie is rated R for some violence, disturbing images and language.

THE ASTRONAUT'S WIFE

Spencer Armacost is a NASA astronaut. While on a space-walking mission with fellow astronaut Alex Streck, an explosion results in a communication loss for two minutes between the astronauts and Earth. After returning to their respective spouses, the two astronauts never speak about their ordeal. Not long after their return, Streck dies from a massive stroke. While still in mourning for her lost husband, his wife commits suicide by sitting in a running shower with an AC powered radio. Spencer retires from NASA and takes an executive position in New York City. His wife Jillian becomes pregnant with twins. She begins to notice changes in Spencer's personality and becomes suspicious. She questions him about what happened during the time they lost contact. Sherman Reese, a former NASA employee who had been fired after the astronauts' return, contacts Jillian. He tells her that Spencer is not her husband. Originally, Jillian doesn't believe Reese, but she starts to recognize similarities between his accounts and her husband's behavior. Reese tells Jillian that Streck's wife was also pregnant with twins at the time of her suicide; he makes arrangements to meet Jillian again so that he can show her more proof, but before that happens, it is implied that Spencer kills Reese. Spencer takes possession of a satchel belonging to Reese which contains the information that can explain what's going on. Jillian does, however, receive the information that Reese intended to pass her in the form of a video tape. Despite the film's earlier ambiguities, Spencer and Streck turn out to have been possessed by extraterrestrial beings. In order to keep the secret, Spencer kills Jillian's sister, Nan, who confronts him when she sees Spencer in possession of Reese's satchel. Jillian, suspicious of her husband's actions, sets up a confrontation where she attempts to electrocute herself. The resulting conversation during the confrontation confirms to her that Spencer is possessed. At the end of the confrontation, Spencer is electrocuted and his true alien form (a tentacled energy being) is revealed briefly before "transmitting" itself into Jillian. This movie is rated R for violence, language and a strong scene of sexuality.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT

In Barrow, Alaska sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett), like many other residents of the artic town, readies himself for its annual 30 days of darkness where, as its name suggests, there is no sunlight for an entire month. Before the perpetual month even commences a series of strange events begin happening: the sheriff finds dozens of incinerated cell phones along a nearby roadway, numerous individuals report that their sled dogs have been butchered, and the town's primary telecommunications center has been sabotaged. Though even before the crimes above occurred, Eben was disturbed by the arrival of a nameless man who entered the town by boat (herein referred to only as 'The Stranger'). The Stranger (Ben Foster) had not done anything wrong per-se, yet the sheriff wondered why he would travel to Barrow during its least desirable season. Preliminary investigation eventually implicates the unknown man in the crimes above, reinforcing the accuracy of Oleson's intuition. But why would a random vagrant be so obsessed with isolating Barrow from the outside world? When the town's power station is crippled, with its operator's severed head on display inside, it becomes clear that the jailed stranger was not acting alone. After their discovery Eben, alongside his ex-wife Stella (Melissa George), frantically alert each household to lock all doors and keep a shotgun within reach. Sadly, their warning reaches most of the town's inhabitants too late. It turns out that the carnage and destruction is not the doings of a group of psychotic killers, however: Barrow's sunless month has attracted a flock of vampires, who can disregard their deadly reaction to daylight for the next 30 days. As the remaining townspeople take refuge in a small, hidden attic, they must protect themselves from these immortal bloodsucking creatures. Can they survive a month of pure terror? With a sizeable $30 million production budget, 30 Days of Night performed well at box offices, earning $75 million across the globe. It was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards and the film's success warranted the release of a straight to DVD sequel, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. Rating: Rated R for graphic violence and explicit language.

EAGLE EYE

Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) is going nowhere fast. Unlike his twin brother Ethan (also portrayed by LaBeouf), a computer genius employed by the pentagon, Jerry dropped out of college to pursue a different path: working at a copy shop that uncannily resembles a certain nationwide chain. After a fatal automobile accident resulted in Ethan's untimely death, Jerry began to experience a series of strange events. First $750,000 suddenly appeared in his bank account; next he discovered a massive cache of weapons and explosives in his apartment. Before Jerry even imagines the cause of these occurrences his cell phone rings. He is greeted by a strange, robotic female voice that commands him to vacate the apartment within 30 seconds, or else face arrest by the FBI. Jerry is understandably hesitant, especially amidst the day's surreal happenings that, as far as he knows, may be a mere hallucination. Within seconds, however, a team of agents burst through the door and apprehend the college flunky; he is hauled off to the agency's headquarters and fiercely interrogated, unwaveringly maintaining his innocence and absolute confusion. Has he been framed? Should he have listened to the caller's advice? Soon a crane crashes through the agency's window, freeing Jerry while the mysterious voice guides him to safety. In another part of town we meet Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), a single mom awaiting the day's end. She too receives a call from a droid-like lady, who orders Rachel to meet an unknown man – who happens to be Jerry. If she fails to comply, the caller guarantees the death of her son, Sam (Cameron Boyce). Like Jerry, Rachel is unsure whether or not to take the caller seriously. In a few moments, though, the anonymous person proves that these are not idle threats. Once Rachel and Jerry meet viewers learn the caller's identity. As suspected it is not a human, but a computer. Unbeknownst to his close friends and family, Ethan had been the key engineer of a sophisticated defense system, that utilized artificial intelligence to enforce justice and eliminate corruption within the United States Government. It is codenamed ARIIA, or Autonomous Reconnaissance Intelligence Integration Analyst, and the machine requires its captives' help to initiate an elaborate assassination plot. Throughout the entire ordeal neither individual is given specific details about their mission, and both eventually deduce that ARIIA is not simply an automated Good Samaritan. What follows is a story that combines elements from films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and WarGames with nonstop action, suspense, and awesome CGI. Eagle Eye was nominated for an MTV Movie Award and Teen Choice Award. After its theatrical run ended the film had grossed nearly $180 million worldwide, not including brisk DVD and Blu-ray sales and rentals.
